Here we are again… the 7th Pattingham Scarecrow Festival is back…The most popular biennial village Scarecrow Festival is here again for 3 days at the end of September in the beautiful country village of Pattingham, situated on the South Staffs/Shropshire border, just 7 miles from Wolverhampton.

The 3-day event will run from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th September 2025, opening 12 pm to 5 pm Friday, 10 am to 5 pm Saturday and 11 am to 5 pm Sunday. Over 110 scarecrows have been registered by villagers and these will be displayed on 3 routes, details of which will be in the Trail Guide which can be purchased for £3 at the main car park, or at the Village Hall. The ever-popular Children’s Quiz and special Scarecrow Badge will again be available at £1 each item.

The main car park with a capacity of approximately 1000 vehicles is a short distance out of the village down the Patshull Road and will be clearly signposted and manned. A further car park specifically for the disabled will be available on the back car park of the Village Hall.

This year, there will be a bigger choice of refreshments at local pubs, the village hall and coffee shops, together with an assortment of food vendors situated on the car park of the Pigot Arms to include tea, coffee cakes, sandwiches, pizzas, hog roast, chicken and beef Yorkshire wraps, fish & chips, burgers and bars.

For safety and to enhance this area, the road from the top of the High Street down to the junction of Hall End Close will be closed on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th, from 9 am to 6 pm..

This year, sponsors of the event are several local businesses and final profits from the event will be used to support several village establishments and new projects.Running alongside the Festival, will be two evening events…A Barn Dance with a Hog Roast in Pattingham Village Hall on Friday 26th September at 7.30 pm, tickets at £15 each available by calling 07968 891 927.

A Brass Band Concert in St Chad’s Church, Pattingham on the evening of Saturday 27th September at 7.30 pm, with tickets at £15 each available by calling 07757 688 518.

Harvest Festival services will also be held in St Chad’s Church on Sunday 28th September at 10 am and 6.30 pm.

We're looking for new on-call fire fighters to join or Brewood crew

Here’s an update from Brewood Fire Station:As your on-call firefighter crew we provide day and night emergency cover for the local community. Rather than being based at the fire station, we work a number of on-call hours each week where we are paid to respond to emergencies from home or work.At the moment there are 10 of us working on-call, but we really need more people to come forward and join us to support the local community. If you live or work within 5 minutes of Brewood Fire Station and are 18 years old or over you can apply to join us to gain the skills to become a fully competent firefighter. You can find more information about the on-call role and make your application on our website: https://www.staffordshirefire.gov.uk/careers/on-call-firefighters/ You can also contact the local On-Call Support Officer, Tom Mabley, to have a conversation about how the role could work for you around your current commitments: 07528 983157 or email [email protected]

We're recruiting on-call firefighters. On-call firefighters are not based at a station but instead, carry an alerter and respond to incidents when they happen.

Perton Mums

The first day of starting school is a milestone that can fill both parent and child with a mix of excitement and anxiety. For the parent, there is now time to meet new friends and discover 'my time'. That’s why I have started Perton Mums which meets in the Wrottesley Room at Perton Library on Monday mornings in term time from 9 until 11. Come along for a cuppa and chat, biscuits included of course. Enjoy a couple of hours without the children, relax, chat, and discover new opportunities. Ann Everitt, Coordinator, Perton Mums
