A couple of quick ones to catch up on.
Rounds 2 and 3 of the Harescombe Fisheries winter league teams of four.
Round 2; it was freezing, raining and blowing a gale. Peg 6 on field lake for me; a familiar one. However, with the lake fishing brutally hard i only managed one mugged carp on bread punch and one on a bomb and wafter. Somehow this was still enough for second on the lake and 2 section points. With the other lads having good showings as well and no blanks we finished first on the day which moves us into 1st overall in the league standings.

Round 3. A calmer and milder day altogether and i finally drew the peg i'd been wanting to draw since forever. However, it is the shallow end of the lake where none of the new stock skimmers reside so it would be carp or bust. I set up to mostly dob and chuck a bomb everywhere. Eventually i managed a couple of carp on the bomb and a surprise large perch. At the all out my 10.12 was again enough for second. With Ali winning match lake, Steve coming good again with 3 points and Ken having a bad draw on Doughnut lake but still scraping a tough earned 6 we finished second on the day. This keeps us in first position in the league overall with two rounds to go.

Apologies for the lack of updates. Couple of quick ones to catch up on.
First match back with the THE TACKLE DEN MATCH GROUP . at Hillview fishery. We started the morning with awards and i picked up my trophy for winning the individual league. I also drew a nice peg on canal 3 which i was happy with. Alistair on the next peg so we had a nice battle whilst we froze. I weighed 66lb for 4th on the day.
The following Sunday was the first round of Ed Bryant's Teams of four winter league at Harescombe Fisheries. Field lake for me and peg 8, awful. I didn't have a bite until the last hour pretty much when i managed a handful of rudd and somehow a rogue carp which pushed me up to 4th on the lake. With Ali, Ken and Steve having good matches on their lakes we finished second on the day as a team, which we were very happy with. A good start.

Long over due catch up from several weeks ago. Ivy House Lakes canals with The Tackle Den group. Peg 45 on Kingfisher for me, not notable but i quite fancied it despite awful driving wind and rain conditions. I started short on a top kit plus three as the wind was not going to allow me to fish long. This was really slow with just a few skimmers but i pushed out another section and started to catch a few stockies up to a couple of pounds a piece on 4mm hard pellets. After a few hours the wind was definitely dying down and i was able to go across dobbing bread, it was a full 16 meters so it was hard work but there were fish to be had. After a good hour or so across i also managed a few fish switching up multiple hard pellet lines. However the last two hours saw everything die. I barely had a bite the rest of the way. At the all out my fish went 62.03, enough to win Kingfisher but there was a 67.11 on Moorehen to leave me second overall on the day.

Quick catch up from a week or so ago.
On Friday i was back at Rood Ashton Lake. Felt like i learnt a lot from my trip a week before and was keen to make some changes this time around; meat in the edges, don't neglect shallow(even though it's October and super heavy rigs to battle the monstrous undertow on this venue. Peg 5 for me, which is decent with plenty of open water. I started on the method at range but quickly dropped on the long pole and put together a really nice run of good stamp carp on pellets. They seemed to back off now and then but a simple switch to the bomb brought another good run of fish. Switching between these two banker lines kept fish coming most of the match and i even managed 5 late in the edge. Meat was a much better choice in the edge than my groundbait and dead maggot approach from the week before. At the all out my 155.15 won the day giving me four straight Friday wins which is nice as the venues have been varied.

Couple of catch ups from last week; Friday i was on a new venue for me - Tockenham Lake (Amalgamated Fisheries Ltd) Tockenham reservoir. I was really looking forward to this as i haven't been on a silvers match for months. My peg was up near the dam end in the deep water, apparently. They weren't kidding about the depth, i had eleven feet on my 13 meter line and it kept going the further i went. I set up to fish a simple match- groundbait and casters on the long pole, groundbait feeder at 30 meters and i was going to throw casters short. I had a really nice steady match, catching mostly good sized skimmers on a small groundbait feeder. When this slowed i was able to pick off the odd skimmer on the long pole, although they were a much smaller stamp. At the all out my 32.14 just squeaked the win.
Sunday was a return to my favorite venue of all - Rood Ashton Lake . I have barely been to the venue this season, sadly, so felt out of touch, however i was happy to be back. Peg 4 for me, it has nice edges, although a bit shallow for October. I set up the usual bomb/method/long pole and edges. I had a brilliant start on the method at various ranges and then decent hours two and three fishing hard pellets on bomb and long pole. However my match completely fell apart in the last two hours when i was only able to add two fish. The edge never came good as my dead maggots and groundbait approach was obliterated by the still active tiny roach. My 83.13 was still good for 4th and a section win. However, I definitely felt rusty on the venue and was too rigid in my approach. I left thinking i should have fished a different bait in the edge(probably 6 or 8mm meat) and should have also found a way to keep a few fish coming late when i really struggled.

Little catch up from last Friday with intake at Ivy House Lakes canals. Peg 46 for me; looked decent. I started across where it was a full 16 meters but quickly dropped in down the track and had a steady run of carp and f1s on pellets. The track lines were fairly steady most of the match, much better than short and the edge. It was obvious that things were on the change and the weights were going to be fairly low so i was happy to tick over. At the all out my fish went 69.15 which was enough for the win.

A couple of quickies from last weekend -
Friday i was on Heron@Ivy House Lakes. With all the rain and bad weather and summer distinctly in the rear view mirror none of us were expecting mega weights. I drew peg...18...ummm or 19, somewhere around there in the corner.
I caught well early on short with hard pellets on the deck, switched to shallow and had another decent run. Messed around on the waggler for way too long missing bites before finishing strong in the edge on slop. At the all out my 128.05 was enough for a win.
Sunday i was back with the tackle den on Manor Farm. We were spread over two lakes and with Windmill heavily favoured over the significantly less productive Ash we all wanted to draw well. Windmill 13 for me, right lake and open water, perfect. However After we took off for our pegs we were called back for a re-draw. The re-draw gave me 5 on Ash in a corner of the lake. I've never been on the lake before so fired off a load of messages to regulars to ask how i should approach it. "Worst peg on the venue" was the consensus. Great! I struggled and scratched all f1's, mostly on the bomb with wafters for 35.08 and 10th out of 17. A bad one like this narrows my lead over the annoyingly consistent Ken Rayner for the league title.

Last week was the final of the Windmill fisheries Thursday qualifiers. With all the mixed weather and the lake fishing tricky the draw was always going to be huge. Peg 25 for me, which looked ok with an island chuck, open water and some decent edges.
I had a biteless two hours before catching two on the bounce on casters shallow. The next two hours were again, biteless, despite me rotating through everything. With two hours to go i big potted my edge and dropped in. This produced four 8lb plus carp in four consecutive put ins and i began to fancy my chances. However, they then completely vanished. The last hour and a half produced no more bites. My six fish went 45lb which was sixth and last in the money.

Quick one from last Sunday's SCAC match on Ridgeway. 14 blue for me, my first time drawing the peg. No island gap unfortunately but at least i was on blues rather than whites. Ridgeway has been fishing tough lately, as have most venues. I had a couple of carp early dobbing bread across, in hour two i managed a couple more searching out the far reaches of the peg with bomb and bread. Went down the middle on pellets where there was the odd skimmer to be had but this didn't feel like it was going anywhere. Finally managed a couple more carp across on the deck but never had any signs in the edge. At the all out i wasn't sure how i'd done but my 40.08 was just enough to win it :)

Catch up from last weekend's tackle den match group on Witherington farm. Spread across two lakes i drew a corner peg on Cottage that looked decent. Witherington farm is usually a big weight venue but this match fished brutally hard. I didn't have a bite until well into hour three. With only one foul hooked fish on the method. I had to go into serious scratching mode to put a few fish in the net during the second half. I managed to mug two, had two short on maggots and then two late fish on paste in the edge. Fortunately all of them were big and collectively weighed 69.01 which, thankfully, was enough to win.

Quick one from a week or so ago. Tackle Den Match group on Hillview Lake and Canals. Tough day aIl around but i drew a decent area of the lake with the wind blowing in. Caught ok in patches short and in the edge. Hard pellets and corn. At the weigh in my 96.06 looked like it was going to win but got pipped by 9oz by Steve Venn 96.15.
