On Friday evening last week (15.05) IMPA SAVE was awarded the “Special ESG Initiative Award”at the ESG Shipping Awards International Event 2026, held in Athens, acknowledging the collaborative efforts in creating significant change in the shipping industry.

This is a reminder it is not just for today, but it is part of everyday life. Caring for people and caring for the environment go hand in hand.

Today on Earth Day, we are thinking about the people who live closest to the ocean, yet are often furthest from the conversation about it: seafarers.

Over 80% of global trade moves by sea, and it’s seafarers who keep that system running—navigating changing weather patterns, rising environmental standards, and the increasing impact of climate change on the world’s oceans.

Sustainability at sea isn’t abstract. For seafarers, it’s operational reality: fuel efficiency decisions, emissions regulations, ballast water management, and daily choices that shape the health of marine ecosystems.

As we talk about protecting the planet, it’s important to include those who are already working on the front lines of the ocean economy. Supporting seafarers with better technology, training, and working conditions is not separate from climate action—it is part of it.

Earth Day is a reminder that the ocean connects us all. So does the responsibility to protect it.

This is so true - wherever we are — and make space to pause, observe, and reconnect with the world around us. Follow this great initiative.

Take a moment to look out — really look — and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us 🌊

For seafarers, every day brings a new horizon, shifting skies, and endless oceans. Sunrises that stretch across the water, star-filled nights untouched by city lights, and the quiet rhythm of waves — it’s a perspective few get to experience so intimately.

It’s a reminder that even in the busiest or most challenging roles, there is always something grounding, something beautiful, if we take the time to notice it.

Let’s carry that mindset with us — wherever we are — and make space to pause, observe, and reconnect with the world around us.

Stress Awareness Month is observed every April to raise awareness of the unique causes and impacts of stress experienced by seafarers and maritime professionals working in demanding offshore and onboard environments. It highlights the importance of mental well-being at sea, where long periods away from home, isolation, fatigue, and operational pressures can take a significant toll on individuals and crews. Be kind to yourself and others—take 10 minutes to pause, reset, and carry on. It is always better to talk or take a step back before stress takes over, rather than pushing through alone.

As the lights go out this evening, take a moment to think of our seafarers.

Across oceans and time zones, they continue their journeys—often far from home—keeping the world moving. Tonight, we all stand under the same sky, quietly connected no matter where we are.

Grateful for those who navigate the unseen paths that bring us together. 🌍✨

Watching the stars today during Earth Hour - 8.30-9.30pm 🌍✨

As the world turns off the lights, the stars will shine through - look up.

No screens, no noise—just the sky doing its thing.
And somewhere out at sea, our seafarers are looking up at the very same sky—navigating, reflecting, carrying the world on their shoulders, missing their love ones.

Different horizons, same stars.
A quiet reminder that we’re all connected, wherever we are.

IMPA CAST Season 4 Episode 5 - In Conversation With... Amilia Busby

Listen here - https://impablog.com/2026/02/11/impa-cast-season-4-episode-5-in-conversation-with-amilia-busby

An honest and open discussion from a young female seafarer’s perspective, who shares her journey and experiences.

Rebecca Bridgen speaks to Amilia Busby, 3rd Engineering Officer at Heidelberg Materials and Founder of ShipMates Network. They discuss what inspired her to pursue a career at sea and the challenges of being a female on board a vessel in a predominantly male orientated environment.

Amilia talks about the work she does to encourage young people to enter the Merchant Navy in her role as an Ambassador for the UK based Careers at Sea. Most recently Amilia has set up ‘ShipMates Network’ a new online community to bring seafarers together to build confidence, community, and career opportunities. With a goal to create an inclusive, accessible environment where every seafarer, feels welcomed.

'In Conversation with' is brought to you by IMPA CAST in collaboration with ShipMoney.
