A series of waterfalls tumble through the valley, carving out crystal clear pools beneath them. There are so many to choose from it’s easy to see why this corner of the Lakes is a wild swimmer paradise.

When I need to escape, we come to places like this!

Hidden among the hills, this old quarry feels like stepping into another world. Surrounded by towering cliffs and caves carved into the rock, it’s the kind of place that instantly makes everyday life feel a million miles away.

The adventure starts before you even reach the water, with a steep incline that’ll definitely get your heart pumping. Paddleboarding across the still water, exploring the caves, wild swimming in the deep blue depths, and even a little jump to top of the adventure.

Sometimes the best escapes aren’t about ticking off famous landmarks. They’re about finding somewhere that makes you put your phone down, take a deep breath, and enjoy the moment

This is my anti-depressant & it doesn’t need a prescription!

This quiet little corner of the Lake District feels like a secret escape. We visit every trip and always leave with more friends than we arrived. It’s like Lakedistrict’s. secret social corner. There’s something about the laid back atmosphere, friendly faces, and breathtaking scenery that makes people slow down and connect.

Open your campervan doors to panoramic lake and fell views, breathe in the fresh air, and let the stress melt away. It’s the perfect spot to switch off, recharge, and enjoy everything van life is about.

Despite feeling wonderfully secluded, you’re only a 20 minute paddle across the water from a main town if you don’t want to lose your parking spot.

Sunsets, paddleboards & campfire vibes. This place really is a bit special.

Fierce falls and hidden tunnels in the middle of nowhere!

The adventure starts by stepping through a cave, opening out into a dramatic gorge where a huge waterfall plunges down the rock face. One of the best parts is being able to walk behind the curtain of water and take it all in from a completely different perspective

As we explored further, we came across hidden tunnels, smaller waterfalls and perfect pools for a refreshing dip. The water was icy, the scenery unreal, and somehow we had the whole place completely to ourselves making it feel like a true hidden gem!

Water parks are overrated…

we swapped queues, wristbands and chlorine for one of the most magical walks we’ve done in the Lake District and within minutes it felt like we’d wandered into a storybook.

The first highlight is the famous grotto, hidden amongst the gardens. Step inside and you’ll find a huge glass window perfectly framing the waterfall. Creating a completely unique view that you could stand and admire forever.

From there, the walk follows a stunning trail through breathtaking scenery, with rushing streams, dramatic waterfalls and stunning views appearing around every bend.

Along the way you’ll discover multiple waterfalls and crystal clear wild swimming spots, each one tempting you in for a dip. Then comes the showstopper… a naturally carved rock waterslide sculpted by centuries of flowing water. Nature’s answer to a water park.

Sliding into cool mountain water surrounded by fells, woodland and waterfalls is an experience that reminds you just how amazing the outdoors can be.

We were searching for a nearby toilet when we stumbled across this little beauty!

We managed to grab the last available space and decided to turn it into a full day by the water. Just steps from the car park, a beautiful stone beach stretches around the lake, making it easy to find your own peaceful spot away from the crowds.

Once parked, you won’t want to move as the car park is small and fills up quickly. Toilets are conveniently located within the car park , and the village shop is less than a mile away for any essentials.

The views here are simply stunning. We spent the day paddleboarding, kayaking, and enjoying some much needed family downtime surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of Coniston Water.

Definitely one of those accidental finds that turns into a favourite stop.

We were searching for the perfect place to cool down in this heatwave and we hit the jackpot!

Tucked away not far from Coniston in the Lake District, this old abandoned quarry feels like something straight out of a wild swimming dream. Crystal clear deep water, waterfall spilling down the rock face, and even a rope swing launching you straight into the icy blue below. A total sun trap surrounded by dramatic stone walls and untouched nature.

But as beautiful as it is, this place demands respect. The water is extremely cold and very deep, the rocks are loose and slippery in places, and conditions can change quickly. If you visit somewhere like this, please take care, wear suitable footwear, and never underestimate open water.

There is a paid parking area a short 20 minute walk from the quarry. ÂŁ6 4 hours or ÂŁ9 for 24 hours.

Definitely one of the most unreal spots we’ve stumbled across in the Lakes.

Sometimes the best places aren’t on the itinerary…

We was on route to our next destination when we came across the beautiful Loch Venachar and couldn’t resist pulling over for a while. A quiet little lochside park up, surrounded by still water, mountain views, and complete peace. The kind of spot that makes you forget about the clock completely.

We fired up the BBQ, soaked in the views, and took the paddleboard out onto the water while the sun danced across the loch. This area is in the camping management zone so you must purchase a permit for ÂŁ4.50.

Driving down the road through Glen Etive felt like chasing the edge of the world

Every bend opened up another unreal scene. towering mountains, waterfalls crashing down the rocks, mirror like water, and endless little spots perfect for pulling over and jumping in for a freezing cold dip.

We honestly hit every season on the way down too. Sunshine, sideways rain, moody clouds then back to blue skies and sunshine.

And waiting at the end… Loch Etive. Absolute gold pot moment. Quiet beach, crystal water, free parking right beside it with no restrictions, bins and enough scenery to make you forget your phone even exists for a minute.

Loch views, wild swims and campfire vibes for just ÂŁ4.20 a night!

We recently stayed at the Three Lochs Forest Drive and honestly… this place feels like a hidden little sanctuary tucked away in the heart of the forest.

The 7 mile loop winds through breathtaking scenery with peaceful loch views, towering pine trees, walking trails and hidden gems around almost every corner. One minute you’re parked up beside the water, the next you’re high up in the woods waking up to panoramic views.

You can choose completely different overnight spots depending on your vibe! Lochside pitches for morning swims,Forest hideaways surrounded by nature & Elevated viewpoints with unreal sunsets

For such a low cost stopover, it genuinely feels like one of the best little escapes in Scotland. Perfect for campervans, road trips, wild swimming lovers or anyone wanting to disconnect from busy life for a night or three.
You can spend the day there for only ÂŁ3!

We spent our evening around the campfire, watched the light disappear over the loch and woke up to mist rolling through the trees

If you’re exploring Loch Lomond, this place absolutely deserves a spot on your itinerary.
