In case you missed my last post, Iāve recently relocated to Leicesterā¦hence why my IG handle has changed from Cornish Maid by the Sea to Cornish Maid in the Midlands.
Why would you leave Cornwall? I hear you ask. Honestly? Last winter was bleak. I was living alone in the middle of nowhere and I swear it rained every day. I enjoyed wrapping up warm for a beach walk and spending evenings by the wood burner. But, the truth is, I was lonely. I felt isolated. I felt I didnāt belong, like something was off.
My old salary was barely covering my living costs and unfortunately Cornwallās salaries and living costs just donāt match up in general. I was just about ok when I was teaching, but marketing and creative salaries in Cornwall made it impossible to live alone.
Iāve managed to secure myself an amazing new role which, not only is a four-day week for more money than I was on for a five-day week in Cornwall, itās a 28-hour week instead of 40, with 1-hour lunch breaks, flexible working (half the week from home) and tons of benefits. Iām so excited to develop my career.
My amazing new job, combined with the cheaper living costs here mean I can finally start living. I can afford to treat myself to theatre trips, brunches, coffee and cake, gym memberships, music eventsā¦whatever I fancy.
The best part? I can use Fridays to go for my swim and sauna, a yoga class, a long walk and use the time to work on my business, which Iāve neglected a little recently, but is still ticking along in the background.
Iām meeting new people but also getting comfortable doing things solo. Iām excited for what the future could bring. Everything is gradually aligning and I feel like Iām in the right place.
For those who were here for the Cornwall content, Iāll still be going back to visit family, plus I have a massive back catalogue of Cornwall based photos.
I hope my followers, old and new, will enjoy coming along with me on this journey.
