Lumphinnans housing development has restarted after more than 2 years in limbo.

Fife Council is continuing to tackle the housing emergency with significant progress on two Council housing projects that will deliver more than 100 much-needed properties for local families.

Members of the Council’s Cabinet Committee today welcomed news that work has restarted at the Lochgelly Road development in Lumphinnans, where 97 new social rented houses will now be completed following the appointment of new contractors.

The development had stalled following the insolvency of the previous contractor, First Endeavour LLP, in 2024.

Since then, the Council has undertaken extensive work to address construction, infrastructure and regulatory issues inherited on the site.

New contractor Clark Contracts mobilised last month, and construction has formally restarted with a view to completing 45 houses by summer 2027 and the remaining 52 by September 2028.

Meanwhile, councillors have also approved the purchase of eight family houses in Glenrothes from Allan Water Homes, providing additional high-quality housing in an area of strong demand.

A former Lochgelly church earmarked for a rock climbing centre has instead opened as a new Family Support Centre.

The Bank St premises opened today and will deliver a range of services to support families and young people in the area.

This morning saw the Launch and opening of the New Home for Families, Children and Young People in Fife based in Lochgelly

A place where support, opportunity and community come together.

The Family Support Hub is an exciting new community space at the former St Andrews Church, Lochgelly, created as part of Fife Social Work Service's bold new Families First strategy.

Launched in 2025, Families First is transforming the way we work with children, young people and families by ensuring that:

Every child, young person and family receives the right support, at the right time, to stay safe, achieve their potential and succeed – regardless of poverty, postcode or family circumstances.

The Hub is built on one simple belief: families deserve easy access to the help they need, all under one roof.

Bringing Services Together

The Family Support Hub brings together a wide range of professionals, organisations and community partners who are working side by side to provide early support, practical advice and life-changing opportunities.

By sharing knowledge, skills and resources, we're creating a welcoming environment where children, young people and families can access the right help sooner—preventing challenges from becoming crises.

Beware of a major road closure in Lochgelly at the rail station which will affect drivers heading to Lochore Meadows or the Ballingry area.

⚠️EMERGENCY ROAD CLOSURE - STATION ROAD, LOCHGELLY

***4th August update - Bay Travel is providing a shuttle bus while the road remains closed, between Lochgelly High School and Ballingry.

Passengers travelling to or from Glencraig, Crosshill and Lochore should use the shuttle bus to connect with Service 19 at Ballingry, where they can transfer to continue/complete their journey.

Scottish Water expect that the work will be completed by Thursday evening. We'll provide updates if anything changes.

We've been alerted to a collapsed manhole chamber in Lochgelly this morning, between the train station bridge and the high school.

The chamber is located in the middle of the carriageway, and as a result Scottish Water has had to close the road to allow repairs to be carried out safely.

At present, we don't have confirmed timescales for the repair works but will update this post with more information as soon as it becomes available.

Bus services will be affected while the road is closed - check directly with service providers for updates.

For local communities, or anyone visiting Lochore Meadows Country Park or Fife Cycle Park, the alternative route is shown below.

Cowdenbeath’s first and only Tory councillor has resigned from his party.

Darren Watt made the announcement below saying he will continue as an Independent Fife Councillor.

Resignation from The Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party

After much thought and careful reflection, it is with great sadness that I have made the difficult decision to resign my membership of the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party with immediate effect.

I will continue to represent the Cowdenbeath Ward as an Independent Councillor until the end of the current Council term in May 2027.

Having taken into account my personal integrity, my professional responsibilities, and my wider commitments, I will not be making any further comment at this stage.

Will you be affected by the X56 route cancellation?

X56 Public Meeting

Tonight’s public meeting at Kelty Community Centre was incredible. Over 140 people turned out, with standing room only, representing not just Kelty but communities the length of the X56 route. That turnout speaks volumes about the strength of feeling on this issue, and I want to thank every single person who came along.

The message from the room could not have been clearer: this withdrawal is wrong, and our communities will not accept it without a fight.

In my contribution, I spoke about what this service actually means for real people - those who rely on it to get to work, to access education, to meet caring responsibilities. I also raised the impact on young people in particular, who are the future of our local economy, and the knock-on effect this withdrawal will have on Kelty’s high street and local businesses. This is not just a bus route, it is a lifeline.

Community Councils from Kelty, Milnathort, Kinross, Glenfarg and Perth were all represented tonight, and I want to acknowledge the role they are playing in standing up for their communities. The stops along the route between Kelty and Kinross serve some of our most rural residents, including young people travelling to Kinross High School, and their voices matter too.

What tonight demonstrated above all else is that every elected representative across every party is united on this. That cross-party solidarity matters, and I want to thank my fellow Councillors and parliamentary colleagues for standing shoulder to shoulder with our communities.

A huge thank you to Kelty Community Council for organising such an effective and well-run meeting, and to the staff at Kelty Community Centre for facilitating the event so brilliantly.

The fight is not over. Watch this space. 📢
