Yellow warning of Wind - London and South East - Valid from 1500 Thurs 8 Jan - 0800 Fri 9 Jan

As Storm Goretti approaches, winds will strengthen through Thursday afternoon, with the strongest spell of winds during Thursday evening, with peak gusts of 50-60 mph likely fairly widely, and 60-70 mph along exposed coasts and hills. There is a chance that the Isles of Scilly and south and west Cornwall could experience a short period of exceptionally strong northwesterly winds, with gusts potentially of 80-100 mph. Winds will gradually ease from the west through the early hours of Friday.

Persistent Heavy Rain could also be a hazard also.

Storm Goretti incoming.....

The latest update for us here in Sussex is still a bit unclear and could change. Although there is no weather warnings for us at present, either tomorrow or Friday.... We are stuck right in the middle of the warnings so could easily change. South west of us ( Cornwall to Hampshire) have the current Snow warnings in place, Above (North London and Cambridge) have the rain warnings in place. Infact, most of the country except south east have warnings in place for one thing or another. The warnings chart is looking very messy for rest of the Week!

The current odds for us in South East, it's looking more likely we will get the rain for next few days, lots off! (about 60% confidence at this time) and one thing is for certain, storm Goretti is approaching. This will be with us from tomorrow am, for 24-36 hours. We could easily see gusts up to 60mph tomorrow. One to be aware of. Mixed in with the rain this could cause a bit of the usual chaos. Public transport and road delays and a few trees down. Not that the transport needs an excuse anyway, but at least this will be a plausible one 😉 As always, if anything does change weather warning wise, I will keep you updated. Stay safe, stay warm 🇬🇧🥶🌧️🌨️🍃

Cold Weather update.....

The next day or 2 is looking interesting. Time for a battle of the pressures...Low vs high, who will win? This will go 1 of 2 ways. From Wednesday onwards and for the rest of the Week, we are going to get rain and more rain 🌧️...Or Snow and more Snow 🌨️ Different charts are showing different outcomes at this time,. This indicates it's a very close race to the outcome currently. One small change could sway the result. Watch this space, il keep you updated! 😊

⚠️🌨️❄️ Met Office Yellow warning of Snow and Ice - Valid 0000 (Midnight) Friday 2 Jan - 1200 (Midday) Friday 2 Jan ❄️⚠️

An area of sleet and snow is expected to move southeastwards across parts of England and Wales, lasting approximately 2 - 3 hours in any one place. Where snow falls, 2 or 3 cm is likely for some. 5- 7 cm of snow possible in a few spots, especially higher ground of north Wales and northwest England. Icy patches will also develop quickly as sleet and snow clears.

Snowy, wintry weather can cause delays and make driving conditions dangerous. Keep yourself and others safe by planning your route, giving yourself extra time for your journey. Check for road closures or delays to public transport and amend plans if necessary. 🌨️❄️⚠️

❄️Is there Snow on the way?❄️

As we head towards the end of the year, winter is going to start making an impact. A cold weather alert has been issued for the whole country from 8pm today (28/12) and is set to last into new year and beyond.

By the middle of the coming week we will be seeing some harsh frosts. Night time sub zero temps could get down to between -5 to -7 degrees C. By day these will start to fall also and will range from just 1-4 degrees C in the next few days. There is no snow to come in the immediate future but watch this space. Very early maps are showing some significant snow approaching the UK from around 4th or 5th Jan as it stands. This is too far off to give any further info yet, definitely one to keep an eye on for the new year though! So cold but should stay dry, for the rest of the year at least. Then the chance of snow as we head into new year.... Wrap up warm

Widely 15-25 mm is likely across the warning area, but 40-50 mm may fall in some places, most likely over the Downs. In addition, the rain will be accompanied by strong winds, with a chance of gusts approaching 60 mph on exposed southern coasts, and 40-50mph possible inland. ⚠️Storm Claudia⚠️🌧️Yellow warning for Rain - London & South East England - 0600 Friday 14th Nov - 0600 Saturday 15th Nov 🌧️⚠️

Outbreaks of rain will develop through Thursday evening and night, becoming heavier and prolonged throughout Friday into Saturday. Strong easterly winds, gusts around 30-40mph will accompany this rain. Due to the amount of rain already received this week, there is a high probability this will lead to some localised flooding, plus cause some disruption to road and rail services.

Accumulations of 30-50 mm are expected quite widely, with some places receiving 60-80 mm. Potentially in excess of 100 mm over east-facing hills in southeast Wales. This, following recent wet weather, could lead to some surface water and river flooding impacts. Although some uncertainty exists in the areas of heaviest rainfall, impacts appear more probable across southeast Wales, the Midlands and parts of southern England. Please stay tuned for any further updates

⚠️ Storm Benjamin ⚠️🍃🌧️ Met Office Yellow Warning for Wind and Rain - 0000 Thursday 23 Oct - 2359 Thursday 23 Oct ⚠️

Storm Benjamin is expected to cross southeast Britain Wednesday night and into Thursday, clearing into the North Sea by Thursday evening.

Very strong northwesterly winds are likely to develop. Gusts of wind between 50 and 60 mph can be expected widely, with up to 70 mph possible near coasts. There is a smaller chance, should the low get even deeper, that wind gusts of 75 mph may develop for a time locally, this will be most likely in late morning and into the afternoon. Heavy Rain also during this period, is expected to cause a medium impact on public transport, roads and other services on Thursday. 20-30mm of rain expected quite widely during this 24 hour period, with a high possibility of up to 50mm in some areas of the south and east. Due to the heavy rain already fallen this week, some surface flooding is a high probability.

Storm Amy will bring a period of strong and gusty winds to parts of England and Wales on Saturday. West to southwesterly winds will strengthen and become rather gusty through Saturday, with gusts of up to 55 mph possible in places, and perhaps 60-65 mph along some exposed coasts, especially in the west, and briefly over more exposed hills inland. Winds should then gradually ease later on Saturday.

Possibly some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer. It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves. Some short term loss of power and other services is possible. Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely. Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are possible.

Gusts of 45-55 mph are expected widely inland, with gusts of 60-70 mph possible at times along exposed coasts and hills. Winds will only slowly ease from the west later in the afternoon and into Monday evening. Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely. Some short term loss of power and other services is possible.

First signs of Autumn already making an appearance

Today is technically the first day of Autumn 2025, the weather normally goes a little quite for a couple of weeks or so around this time. The signs came a little earlier this year for some reason. What that may mean, time will tell. Sunshine and heavy showers is set to be the theme throughout this Week, temps expected to be around 18-21c, not too bad. Maybe a day or 2 towards the end of the week or weekend, it might warm up a few degrees and get to mid 20's and less of the showers for a time which will be nice.

Temperatures are definitely starting to feel more autumnal, especially in the mornings. Quite fresh in the early hours now compared to the last few weeks with temps falling to around 10c some nights. Below is a list of storm names for this year, set by Met Office. Won't be too long before we see the first one, for now though enjoy the sunny spells. Take care.
