Family of Late Bilyaminu Bello Opposes Presidential Pardon Granted to Maryam Sanda, Labels It “The Worst Injustice Ever”

The family of the late Bilyaminu Ahmed Bello has strongly condemned the recent presidential pardon granted to Maryam Sanda, describing it as an act that has “reopened our healing wounds” and delivered “the worst possible injustice.”

The family’s reaction was contained in a statement signed by Dr. Bello Haliru Mohammed (OFR) on behalf of the late Bilyaminu’s relatives. The statement came shortly after Sanda’s name appeared on the list of 175 inmates granted clemency under the Federal Government’s prerogative of mercy.

Bilyaminu Bello was k+lled by his wife, Maryam Sanda, on November 19, 2017. She was convicted and sentenced to d+ath by the FCT High Court on January 27, 2020 a ruling that was upheld by the Court of Appeal in December 2020 and later affirmed by the Supreme Court on October 27, 2023.

However, the family said the recent pardon has undermined that sense of justice and reopened old wounds. “To have Maryam Sanda walk the face of the earth again, free from any blemish for her heinous cr+me as if she had merely squashed an ant, is the worst possible injustice any family could be made to go through for a loved one,” the statement read.

The family also condemned what they called the “appeasement” of Sanda’s relatives, arguing that the clemency decision ignored the memory of the victim and the pa+n endured by his extended family. They criticized the justification for her release reportedly based on appeals from her family and sympathy for her two children stating that such reasoning was misplaced.

“Maryam, let’s not forget, had earlier on denied the same children now used to elicit sympathy and secure her release, the opportunity to know what a father’s love and care means,” they added.

Concluding the statement, the Bello family said they would continue to take solace in divine justice, affirming their belief that “ultimate and comprehensive justice rests with the Supreme Judge and our Creator.”

Clergyman, Uma Ukpai, d!es at 80

Renowned international evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, has d!ed.

A statement signed by the family and titled “Glorious Transition,” says the revered clergyman passed on to glory on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80.

The family described him as “a faithful soldier of the cross” who dedicated over six decades of his life to fiery evangelism, dynamic teaching of the Word, and prophetic demonstrations of the power of God.

“With hearts full of gratitude, we celebrate the triumphant homegoing of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed on to glory on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80. A faithful soldier of the cross has been called to rest.

“Dedicating over six decades of his life to fiery evangelism, dynamic teaching of the Word, and prophetic demonstrations of the power of God, he impacted millions of lives and transformed destinies within Nigeria and across the globe.

“He was a spiritual general known for evangelism, a founding father of faith, a loving husband, a devoted father, and a mentor to many, and his life was a testament to God’s power and love.

“While we mourn his physical absence, we rejoice that he has finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise. Details of the obsequies will be announced in due course by the family.

“We are grateful to God for his extraordinary life and enduring legacy.

“For indeed, “To live is Christ, and to die is gain.” — Phil. 1:21.”

⏰️In the final group games in Group B, there could be another showdown with Senegal and DR Congo in the mix.

▶️Senegal will take on Mauritania who are second to last on the table, in Dakar.

A win for the Teranga Lions absolutely secures their QUALIFICATION to the world Cup regardless of what happens elsewhere.

A draw for Senegal Will mean they have to wait for results elsewhere to confirm their qualification.

A highly improbable loss will also mean they still have to wait for results elsewhere.

In all of this, Senegal have a major advantage going into the final day as they have their destinies in their hands.

▶️For DR Congo on the other hand, they do not have their destinies in their hands unfortunately.

Even if they win at home against Sudan, they will still have to hope for a loss from Senegal to sneak in.

Things could however turn in their favour IF, Senegal loses at home against 5th placed Mauritania, and they defeat Sudan at home. That's the only way DR Congo can overtake Senegal for the sole ticket.

However, a second place finish will still guarantee them a playoff spot with their points amassed which could hit 22 if they defeat Sudan on Tuesday.

Former nun marries Catholic priest in secret after they fell in love while praying together.

Lais Dognini, a former nun who later became an influencer, originally met priest Jackson Dognini when he offered to pray for her to help her deal with depression, Brazilian outlet O Globo reported.

The couple married in secret in March, but revealed their union in an Instagram Story on Tuesday, October 7.

Both had dedicated years to the Catholic Church before meeting more than six years ago, when Lais was still a missionary.

Although they shared the same missionary spaces, they had never said so much as “hello” to each other, O Globo reported.

Jackson spent five years in the seminary training for the priesthood, while Lais lived for two years in a Carmelite convent where she dedicated her life to prayer and service.

But when Lais suffered depression and left the convent, returning to her home to focus on her recovery, Jackson, still in the seminary, sent her a message saying he was praying for her.

He believed she would one day return to religious life, but the pair kept exchanging messages and eventually became friends.

Jackson later decided to leave the seminary after a long period of reflection about his vocation.

In April 2024, the couple began dating, becoming engaged in October last year before tying the knot in March.

“It doesn’t seem like much, right? But let’s face it, we’re adults now and we know what we want in life,” Lais wrote on her Instagram as she shared the news for the first time on October 7.
