🐾 Life After Work – Meet the Fortescue Smyth Cats

Christine told us this lovely story about how Bartholomew, Montague, and Esmeralda came into her life…

Back in 2018, she went to the RSPCA Stapeley Grange for one cat. Living next to a field meant the occasional visit from field mice, so a feline helper seemed like a good idea. A beautiful black and white cat came straight up to her – love at first sight! Then his brother appeared, and of course she couldn’t leave him behind. Just as she was about to go, she found out they also had a sister… and it would be a shame to split them up.

Being a sucker for a good cat story, she came home with all three – and the Fortescue Smyth family was born. Bartholomew (pink nose), Montague (black nose), and Esmeralda the tabby have now been Field Mouse Control Officers for seven years… and, more importantly, have completely stolen her heart💕.

Team Life After Work: Meet Christine & Bracken 🐾

We all have our thing outside work, whether it’s skydiving, football, or knitting and we thought it’s time to share a little of what makes each of us tick at Aboveline!

For Christine, it's her animals — 2 donkeys, 3 cats, 2 sheep, and one very special Labrador named Bracken.

Bracken originally belonged to Christine’s dad, a farmer who decided at age 88 that it was time for a new companion. From 12 weeks old, Bracken and her dad were inseparable but Christine was there from the beginning too.

Last year, Bracken came to live with her after her father passed away at 94. Now, this “extremely affectionate and personable chap” takes Christine for a walk every day🐕💛

Greenest Suggestion of the Month!🌿 A big congratulations to Johnny, our Warehouse Operative, and our second winner! 🏆👏

Johnny’s day-to-day involves moving items in and out of storage, a process that, until recently, relied heavily on lots of printed lists and drawings📄.

Seeing the paper pile up, Johnny suggested switching to a digital process, reducing waste, improving efficiency, and allowing project information to be stored in client files and easily passed to the next team member.

A simple but brilliant idea that’s better for the environment and the business💡🌍. Great work Johnny — we love a greener process!

Precision. Craft. Finish. 🎯

We’ve been pushing the boundaries with new manufacturing and finishing techniques – and the results speak for themselves! 👏

Our team faced the challenge of building this beautifully curved display plinth from sheet timber, inlaying curved coloured strips that flow in two directions, and then delivering a flawless silk and high gloss spray paint finish.

The craftsmanship and attention to detail here is a solid 10/10. Massive well done to the team – top job!

We're excited to put Jo’s winning suggestion into action — planting a tree for every completed project! 🌳 🌱

To make this happen, we're teaming up with CARBON FOOTPRINT, who will help us "Pledge a Tree" in UK regions of our choice. These native broadleaf trees will support biodiversity, enhance local landscapes, and help offset CO₂ emissions.

Our first tree will be planted next week — stay tuned for the certificate soon! Huge thanks to Jo for her great idea, something that gives back to both people and the planet!🌍🌿
