🔵 Just happened upon some photos of St Enoch railway station in Glasgow and couldn’t help thinking about its incredible history. Once a bustling hub with its grand glass roof and iconic hotel, it served generations of travellers before closing in 1966. Hard to believe such a landmark disappeared, leaving only fading memories (and a shopping centre replacement) behind. A fascinating piece of the city’s heritage that deserves to be remembered. 🔵

It features neoclassical architecture with a central circular stair tower and symmetrical wings. 80 years on, on 6 and 9 August 1945, the United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. ✈️ 🇯🇵
The attacks killed an estimated 150,000–246,000 people and contributed to the end of the Second World War.

The sad truth is that nuclear weapons are much more powerful now, and the world order is not so certain anymore. Maybe the threat of mutually assured destruction will be the only thing that saves us. ☢️
