KWANKWASO STILL STANDING? APC AND ADC CELEBRATIONS MAY HAVE BEEN PREMATURE

When rumours surfaced yesterday that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was considering walking away from the NDC project over alleged disagreements regarding nomination slots, some people in the APC and ADC must have thought Christmas came early.

One can only imagine the excitement. Perhaps victory songs were already being rehearsed, special meals were being prepared, and political calculators were working overtime. After all, in their minds, the movement that has consistently disrupted their political calculations was finally about to implode.

Unfortunately for them, reality has arrived.

The nomination list released by NDC in Kano tells a completely different story. Rather than being sidelined, all indications show that Kwankwaso's nominees remain fully accommodated, effectively putting to rest claims that his camp was being shortchanged.

As if that was not enough, the Kwankwasiyya Movement has publicly dismissed reports of any crisis, insisting that its focus remains firmly on strengthening the NDC and delivering results across its strongholds. According to the movement, there is no internal war, no rebellion, and certainly no planned exit.

The biggest clue came shortly afterwards when Kwankwaso himself was seen actively engaging with NDC candidates at his residence. That is hardly the behaviour of a man packing his bags to leave. Instead, it sends a clear message that he remains fully involved in the project and committed to its success.

So where does that leave those who were already celebrating a breakup?

Well, the drums may need to be returned to the shop. The fireworks can be postponed. The victory speeches can go back into the drawer.

At least for now, the political obituary some people had already written for the NDC project appears to have been greatly exaggerated.
