Today I had a 3 hour appointment at a private event, and I managed 56 henna designs in that time. That averages out as 3 minutes and 15 seconds per design, and just £6.25 per design (I usually charge £20 per design at public stalls). Pre-paid events always work out as great value for clients (that is a huge saving of £770).

For smaller events with fewer people I do larger strip designs, but when it’s a very busy event with limited time I do small designs so as many guests as possible get a design each. Aftercare information is always provided for all guests as well so everyone can get the best results possible. And of course, I always exclusively use natural henna paste that I mix fresh for each event, order and client.

I charge £250 for the first two hours then £100/hour after that. I also have a day rate of £600 for 6 hours for those longer events. You can book via my website by filling out my event enquiry form and we’ll discuss details on what you would like and my availability. You can even request extra artists and I’ll arrange it all for you so that you’ll be sure to get high quality safe natural henna artists and won’t have to worry about trying to find any extra artists yourself.

Elegant arches and lace for my lovely client this evening, ready for her prom tomorrow.
Lace always looks a bit chaotic with the paste on but once the paste comes off it looks beautiful and delicate like real lace. It’s one of those moments that you really just have to trust the process.
I’m always honoured to have my clients trust me to do henna for any important life event, whether that’s for my brides or for teen proms or birthday parties or any other life event.

Enjoy my paintings? Check out my page that’s dedicated to just my artwork. I’ve only recently started it so there’s not many posts yet but I’ve got several painting’s I’m working on and will be posting progress photos and my completed works so far.

Basically, I applied to enter a local art exhibition but got turned down, so instead of dwelling on the rejection and letting it get me down, I’m creating a digital portfolio and a page for my art as it isn’t about my fibre projects or strictly henna related, so I’m making a page for it. I’ll keep an eye out for other exhibitions and galleries and will be contacting and applying for all that I can to try to get my work ‘out there’ and seen by others. I’ve always wanted to create art to share with the world and to bring smiles to peoples faces and to start conversations. But I’ve been afraid of rejection (adhd/autism thing; RSD/ rejection sensitive dysphoria). But I’ve decided to not let that fear control me any more. So I’m finally doing it. If you could like my page and share any of my art that you enjoy I’d be grateful and thankful.

Today I had a lovely appointment with and her wonderful Baldie Retreat in Glastonbury for women with alopecia. I love private events where I can chat and connect with each person as I adorn them with beautiful natural henna art.

Have you got an event coming up and looking for something a bit different to entertain your guests? Why not book henna! Your guests will be pampered with beautiful designs that will last 1-2 weeks after your event, and aftercare guides and instructions are provided for everyone so they can achieve the best results. Simply head over to my website and fill in the simple booking request form and I’ll let you know if I have that date available for you! If you need more than one artist, I work with a team of local natural henna artists and can arrange it all for you so you don’t need to worry about trying to find other artists that are safe and are at the skill level you are looking for (and even if I’m booked or unavailable then, I’ll still help you to find a suitable alternative natural artist, because your safety and satisfaction ALWAYS comes first with me).

I feel such sorrow, grief and rage at the state of the world. I often feel hopeless and don’t know what to say about what is going on. But it’s not ok. Rights are being taken away and I feel like I have to do something to speak up and express my rage. So I’m working on my art and I’ll do what I can and just hope that if we all speak up and we fight, then hopefully the future may be brighter.

I also want to reassure and reaffirm that my studio is a safe space for ALL. Any hate or abuse (in any form) will NOT be tolerated.

I did a load of gardening last week so this week I’ve been enjoying the lovely weather and the beautiful flowers, and of course I had to do a fun floral leg piece for myself.

Please note: my website has decided to disconnect from it’s usual domain and my laptop is currently having a tantrum (technical difficulties), so I can’t fix it just yet. My bio link has been updated and the website is working fine other than that and you can still order products and book appointments as usual.

03/04/2025

Oops! There is some technical issues with my website at the moment so my usual domain is not linking up. I’ve updated the link on my page and so you can still purchase my products and book appointments, it’s just a slightly different link.

I’ll be looking into a new website host provider and re-building my website again so please be patient. I’m happy to send you the links to any pages from my site- don’t hesitate to message with enquiries or any questions, I’m always happy to help.

I’ll be getting it fixed as soon as I am able to (it may take a little while though), and I thank you for your patience in the meantime!

New products now available from my etsy shop!

I’ve been busy making the most of the weather and have been adorning tealight candles in the garden. They still need to fully dry before I can seal the paste on. Then they’ll need more time to dry. They are listed as made to order as I only have the space to store a few sets at a time, but these will be ready to post for the next post office run next week on Tuesday/Wednesday.

I’ll also have some more news for you in the next few weeks, so follow this space to be the first to find out what it is! I can’t wait to tell you!

When you get a natural henna design, you’ll have to look after it properly for the stain to fully develop and darken. Luckily, it’s super simple to do. These are the basic three aftercare rules for good results (and why they help). I’ll also post some extra steps you can take in a separate post, but I’m keeping it to basics for now.

1. Keep the paste on! It may be tempting to flake the paste off once it’s dried but that’ll leave you with a pale stain that fades quickly. Keep the paste on a minimum of 5 hours but 12 hours or overnight is best. This gives the paste plenty of time to sink into the skin, resulting in a deep colour that lasts longer.

2. Keep warm. When you are warm, the skin will take the dye much easier and better, and allow it to sink deeper into the skin, giving you better results. Rest your hand on a hot water bottle or sit near a heater or radiator if you feel chilly.

3. Avoid excessive water. When the paste is still on, don’t get it wet, this will cause the design to smudge and run and become a mess. When the paste is off, if you soak your design in water for an extended period of time, it will stop the dye from fully developing, and it can make fully developed stains fade. You can wash your hands and hover showers still, just keep them short and sweet and it’ll be fine.

See, super simple and easy! Let me know if you have any questions you have about natural henna and I’ll gladly answer them for you either in the comments or in a post.

About The Henna Peacock- More than just henna

The Henna Peacock was started by a love and passion for natural henna, and the art and culture that surrounded it.

Henna artist, Shelby was originally self taught and started offering her designs at local markets and fairs back in 2013. She then went on to study under a top henna artist in London, back in 201. From this she learnt a lot about creating beautiful, detailed bridal designs.

From there, she created The Henna Peacock, and since then has grown and evolved over time to become what it is today. In 2020, Shelby received her ICHNA certification (A prestigious award with a notoriously difficult pass rate, going over all aspects of henna, including the culture, how it is grown, the dangers of chemical henna). Shelby believes that natural henna is the only way to go, and only uses henna paste that she mixes herself.

Shelby uses recyclable packaging, and even her henna cones are made from super biodegradable cellophane, so that the Earth will never suffer for the beauty of her art.
