At today's meeting of North Lanarkshire Council I moved a motion to ensure the council acknowledges and supports the 70th anniversary of Cumbernauld new town. Cumbernauld was designated a new town on 9th December 1955, and next year will see the 70th anniversary of the formation of Cumbernauld Development Corporation and when work commenced to design and construct Cumbernauld new town.

The motion was unanimously supported by all Councillors, and my thanks to Councillor Claire Barclay - Cumbernauld East - Ward 4 for seconding the motion and recounting her experiences of growing up in Cumbernauld and the achievements of just some of the local community and third sector organisations in Cumbernauld. More information will follow in the new year about the events, activities, and projects which will take place to recognise and celebrate this landmark 70th anniversary for Cumbernauld new town.
