Hark! The Sound Of Stories returns on Friday 28th November

We have the excellent Roxanne de Bastion and Frazer Lambert Music joining us for a beautiful night in our town's beautiful Darlington Libraries Stories of grief, love, loss and hope with family histories and memories shared.

Roxanne de Bastion
Creative tour-de-force and trailblazing independent musician and author Roxanne de Bastion will perform music from her album The Piano Player of Budapest, which accompanies the book by the same title. The Piano Player of Budapest is the story of Roxanne's grandfather, a renowned Hungarian musician who survived the holocaust. The album Stephen de Bastion's music back to life, beautifully re-imagined and curated by Roxanne, and was launched at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The book was published by Little Brown, to glowing reviews in the national press. We are very excited to have Roxanne bringing her talent to Darlington.

Frazer Lambert Music
De Bastion is supported by alt-folk soul artist Frazer Lambert. Frazer, from Stockton-on-Tees, crafted his songwriting skills over many years in the cafes of Amsterdam, before taking his music around the world and back home again. There’s always a story to be told. The latest chapter in Frazer’s music navigates grief, loss and the paths they cross. Called the ‘most calming’ vocalist in North-East England, Frazer’s songs are emotional and thought-provoking reflections on his own life experiences. Expect beautifully written original songs sung with love, passion and honesty.

Doors at 7.30pm, show begins 8pm.

FREE TO ATTEND - but seating is limited, so please book a ticket to assure your place!

Amazing to be at the Mercury Prize last night - we can't say enough about how important it is to see it move outside of London, and right here to the North East include and represent the talent we have in our region and move towards a more geographically fair music industry for the future.

Some stunning performances from nominees Pulp, Wolf Alice, Pa Salieu, Jacob Alon, FKA twigs and more, topped off with the pure poetry it was to see Sam Fender take the win on his home turf. Huge congrats to Sam on his Mercury winning album, and being a shining example of what it means to be from the North East.

Big thanks to Generator for inviting us, and for all their work on the fringe events which have turned the awards into a great programme of development and showcase opportunities. There's a real buzz in the local music scene at the moment, and we're excited to be a part of it and see what the future holds.

Thank you so much to everyone who braved the storm and came to last night's Hark! The Sound of Stories - safe to say it was absolutely worth it.

All-new songs from Faithful Johannes , conjuring up different facets of Durham history (and he played guitar!) had us bopping along. Then Mr Barry Hyde played a solo rendition of songs from his Miners Ballad album, complete with piano improvisation, to a you-could-hear-a-pin-drop audience. And not forgetting brilliant readings from Darlington Library 's own Lucy Kingsley and our favourite Bob Fischer

A new Hark favourite night, that. Big big thanks to the library and Bishop Line Community Rail Partnership and CrossCountry trains for making it possible, thanks to an amazing audience who stuck around to chat to the artists at the end and then went so far as to help us put the room back together! And an extra special thanks to Asa, who went above and beyond helping us out all evening when we were down a team member.
