Painted Ghosts

A review by Patsy on Amazon - A slice of India

“This was a really intriguing and different kind of read. The three separate female protagonists each had their own story to tell and demons to face. These female characters were drawn with such precision and detail that I felt as though I knew them. This is a particular strength of this writer, he is able to write about women in a sensitive and authentic way, not easy for a male writer, but Mr Beardmore achieves this with great skill. I learned so much about the landscape, culture and myths of India, which made me want to take flight immediately and immerse myself in it.
I would highly recommend this for a serious, different kind of reading experience.”

A fantasy book with a message

L. J. Hawkins’ Review
“I enjoy reading fantasy books (C.S. Lewis and Phillip Pullman) and found that I could not put this book down so subsequently read it within a few days. I was intrigued every step of the way of what was going to happen next. There is an underlying message throughout this book of love and forgiveness and I found it a very moving story. I would recommend this book to older children and adults alike.”

From George Angus, It’s a Five. Chilling, With a Great Premise, an Amazon Review

“From the first page, I was hooked by this great story. The author has a tremendous sense of pace and the book rarely slows long enough to take a deep breath. It's a love story intertwined with a touch of the paranormal spiced with a bit of espionage. Tough to throw all of those things together but in this book, it's done seamlessly and makes for a great story.
I developed a strong sense of ownership for the characters which is key to my personal enjoyment of a book.
I'm glad I downloaded The Blake Curse and I hope you get the book and enjoy it as much as I have."

A review by Mme C. Jamieson - A detective story with a difference!

At last a detective story with a difference! We have a crime; we have an investigation - in fact five investigations(!); and we have an identification of the killer. But on the way there's a whole lot of other stuff, particularly that peddled by a university lecturer with creative and unusual things to say about Christianity and his eccentric disciple Pyrena Hembry, who's nothing less than a delight. Enormous fun. Then there's information on how to set up an operation trafficking in stolen books, disreputable goings-on in the cathedral precincts and death by the destroying angel mushroom. Without giving anything away, I can tell you that the ending clinched it for me: really good. If you just want a page-turner, this book isn't for you; but if you want to be stimulated and given much food for serious thought, go for it!

No Cousin of Mine
A review by - Colin Campbell

“I would highly recommend this book not only for those of us, who were conscripted into National Service but to anyone who wanted a historical account of what it was like, to be enlisted in the RAF. The book takes you through all stages of entry, from civilian, trade training and eventually as part of 256 Squadron. The book has many facets of humour relating to episodes, which although could be highly questionable, actually happened. These stories could not have been made up. I was very fortunate to serve at RAF AHLHORN and whilst I wasn't in 256 Squadron, I had a first-hand view of the seriousness of life in an RAF posting, with two squadrons of MK11 Meteor Night Fighters. This book should be part of anyone's research into life in the post-war RAF and their findings will be rewarded with the many examples of servicemen's humour, which supported the sometimes arduous task of maintaining the aircraft.”

The book covers the author’s two years serving as a National Serviceman in the RAF on number 256 night fighter squadron in Western Germany. It includes some of the author’s adventures with his comrades. The stories range from funny to slightly strange, and some just totally mad. The foreword is ...

Two Little Dicky Birds
“Real page-turner” A review by Matthew Arnold on Amazon

“A psychological thriller revolving around a UK serial killer and the efforts to catch him. The novel is well written and quick to read--I read it in three days--yet a very complex story none-the-less that jumps back and forth between two storylines: one in 2002, after police received a letter from the serial killer who has stopped for a decade and is giving them four weeks to find him before he resumes; the other is back during the 15-year killing spree in the ‘70s. The author well handles the difficult task of multiple/intertwined plots in the book.
The format of the novel worked well. Short chapters, each covering a single day, moving back and forth between the two timelines and at times, skipping as much as five years in the older one. This allowed for the story to remain well focused at all times on a primary overall plot and at no time does it veer away from the action. Also, it caused me to continually say "OK, one more chapter" and before I knew it, that would turn into reading a hundred pages. The story is richer and more complex than the run-of-the-mill mystery novel and was a quick, highly engaging read.”

GORILLA DREAMS - 5 Stars Amazon Review by ‘Mrs Rachael Hawkins’

“We read this as a family and loved it. My 7yr old and 9yr old boys were both drawn into the story and keen to hear the next chapter. My seven-year-old even wrote a book review of it at school and said his favourite bit was when the flames were too slow and the ballet was too quick. At times they were laughing out loud, at times listening anxiously to know what would happen next. It was great to read out loud and you could tell that the author is a teacher, her understanding of children and their view of the world came across particularly at the beginning and end of each chapter in which you are reminded that these are stories being told by a teacher in a classroom. Both stories told by Mr Eden had a different feel, but both held magic which made you want to be part of the story and be seated at the feet of Mr Eden as well. I wondered whether a book about dancing gorillas would appeal to boys of my age but I didn't need to doubt and I would highly recommend it.”

Brilliant!!! A review on Amazon by Angie from Brighton
“For lovers of short stories, this book is a must. It contains a variety of completely different types of tales, from anthropomorphic dogs to an elderly gentleman who savours silence. The author's sense of humour is evident. His style of writing is so easy and flowing, with descriptions that enable you to feel as if you are there. It is such a pity this wonderful author did not live to see his book in print.”
Read the book - https://www.pneumasprings.co.uk/product/serendipity/

I have written these stories to interest readers with all manner of tastes. Along with the humorous ones I have delved deeper into other such as real life drama, the nonreligious and the contemplative. In short ‘Serendipity’ caters for all tastes.

Awesome Alles fur Deutschland! | A review by Herman on Amazon.

“I was looking for something new to read on holiday not too long or complicated, something which simply had action from start to finish but not from the usual perspective of the Allied side. When I read the brief outline of the book it hooked my interest immediately and I instantly enjoyed being on the German side of things for a change when I started to read it. The book is not political or right wing in any way, its about a group of soldiers fighting against the odds each day trying to survive any way they can. It kept me on edge wondering what was going to happen next? I believe this is a first edition and written in a simple and honest way, the book itself is only around 130 pages long but the pages are larger than normal and crammed with text so you get a good page and a half of story on each one, so you easily get a standard size book feel of over two hundred pages. The only criticism is that I wanted more and didn't want it to end! So I will be sure to be keeping an eye out in the future in case there is another one out.”

A goodreads review by Mehreen Ahmed.
An Anthology of world war II, this book is a compilation of short stories written by various writers. As a work of fiction, the stories told here are almost too realistic, as though the writers were there fighting and witnessing the war and the situations to the lead up to it. Each story deals with the trauma and the politics which uphold vividly the ugly side of the war. Treachery and deception are all but fair game in love and war. And this is the theme that binds all the stories in this anthology."

Commemorating 70 years after the end of WW2 hostilities. A vivid insight, through a fascinating mixture of history, reminiscence and fiction, into life during World War 2 (WWII).

Ignore the cover - let the contents speak for themselves, a review by Ancientnmodern on AMAZON

“An excellent selection of short stories - no stereotypes here. Funny, sad, thought provoking, even spooky ones, these really are a mix of excellent writings. The author has avoided cliches, writes with style and for such a wide ranging selection of stories always manages to hold your attention to the end of each one.
Highly recommended for a good read.”

Looking for a good summer read? – PLAYING HAVOC

“When the big fuse blows, who will be King?” A review by Flying Dutchman (Waterstones)

Technology can be great and I'm sure you'll agree we couldn't live without it now. That is what Playing Havoc is all about. Based on researched facts around a possible natural phenomenon called a Solar Flare, Playing Havoc follows the trials and adventures of a group of everyday inhabitants of a small UK island when everything literally gets switched off in the Northern Hemisphere. Not only the internet and electricity but also TV, radio, fuel, water, food and just about everything else we take for granted. To make matter worse the islanders are a mismatched cross section of people who otherwise got on with their lives without each other. Pulled together by the unlikely central anti-hero Giles, they have to learn quickly to get on with each other and pull their weight. Playing Havoc has dark humour and is there to open our eyes to our over - reliance on technology.

There you are -- you won't want to come back, a FIVE STAR review.

A communication tower er****on technician working in some of the world's most interesting places.

Here you have a ground level (and tower level) view of a man living and working in various S.E.Asian locations. As an American in a foreign country, I find such writing of particular interest and enjoyment -- especially in this case. A fine bit of writing -- candid in detail, the good, the bad -- you feel you're actually living there. And viewed through the eye of a Brit, you can count on the British wit, dry humor, and keen observation -- even a well put and concise bit of historical context. And there you are with him -- the places, the work, the girlfriends.

Most enjoyable it is -- as if listening to it all over a beer at a bar in Bangkok, Saigon, or Phnom Penh. A great read, a great experience. It takes you there -- you won't want to come back.

*Another Brother of the Band of Brothers.*

“Ronald Ooms writes in the first person as if Clancy is telling his story. Ronald interviewed Clancy Lyall about his exploits both in WWII and as a career U.S. Army Non-Commissioned Officer. Clancy sets the record straight (as he knew and lived it) during WWII as a member of 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. He served in every campaign during the war and was among the first to take Hi**er's Eagle's Nest, the mountain retreat of Hi**er's. Clancy's early life as a half Native American, half Scot is colorful leading us to the point where at age 16 he tells his mother that he will lie about his age to join the Army with the idea of becoming a paratrooper. He does not train at Camp Toccoa as did the other members of Easy Company but joins the 2nd Battalion in England in Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion of the 506th.

His experiences in Europe are much the same as the other members of Easy as they fight their way to Germany. Clancy gives us a great deal of background of the battles and how they are fought and won, concluding with his conclusion that Hi**er was the best ally of The Allies due to the strategic mistakes Hi**er made.

Clancy's chilling description of what he sees in the several concentration camps seen by Easy along the way to Germany, Holocaust Deniers should read this book if they still harbor doubts.

Clancy continues to share his adventures during his long career of service in the U.S. Army.

All in all, a very fine book and wonderful to read from another Easy Company member.”

Second Hand Scott - 4 STAR review by Kahnee on AMAZON

I feel I should 'fess up at the start that I know the author here quite well.
Mr Milnthorpe is a fine comedy musician and performer and I have had the pleasure of sharing a stage with him on a number of occasions.
I say that, not to boast when he becomes rich and famous, but because it should be known that this has nothing to do with my views on him as an author. It actually makes writing a review harder.
Especially if you don't really like what you're reading.
Thankfully, we dodged that bullet quite early on.
The story is deceptively simple, as the titular Scott comes to terms with his past through his actions in the present - but telling through flashbacks helps keep the reader on their toes and the tension building.
It's bitter-sweet, poignant, funny, heart-warming, sad - everything a good book should be - and trips along at a good pace without ever getting arduous.
It's also further credit to Gavin that such an array of characters grace the pages without any cliches or repetition.
Hopefully Scott will return to continue his tale.
