Horn Fair is this Sunday at Charlton House & Gardens 🎉

There’s SO much going on throughout the day — stalls selling crafts, food and unique finds, the Greenwich Morris Men, a fancy-dress competition, face painting and a Halloween garden trail for children 🦇🎃

This year Horn Fair is also celebrating Black History Month, with African drumming and dance workshops, plus the African Threads exhibition, featuring pieces from the Royal Greenwich Heritage Trust collection alongside work by Ghanaian textile artist Lorelle Aboagye.

🕯️🍰 DID YOU KNOW? SOME FRAGRANCES ARE CALLED GOURMAND!

Have you ever smelled a candle and thought, “That smells good enough to eat!”?

There’s actually a name for those fragrances — gourmand.

Gourmand fragrances are inspired by food, particularly sweet treats and desserts. Think vanilla, caramel, chocolate, honey and baked goods. 🍯

They’re often associated with warmth, comfort and nostalgia.

And they’re not just for autumn and winter!

These are some of the deliciously inspired fragrances in the Eavesessence collection.

Of course, not every gourmand fragrance is sugary sweet. Some are creamy, nutty, fruity or even slightly spicy.

🌿✨ BAY LEAF MAGIC — HAVE YOU TRIED IT?

Bay leaves aren’t just for cooking! They’ve been associated with protection, good luck, prosperity and wish-making in various folk traditions for centuries.

One popular ritual is to write a wish or intention on a dried bay leaf. 💜

🌿 HOW TO TRY BAY LEAF MAGIC

1. Choose a dried bay leaf.
2. Write your wish or intention on it. It could be love, happiness, confidence, financial abundance or new opportunities.
3. Hold the leaf in your hands for a moment and focus on what you’ve written.
4. Decide whether you’d like to burn it or keep it.

🔥 IF YOU CHOOSE TO BURN IT

Place the leaf in a fireproof dish on a heat-resistant surface, away from anything flammable. Carefully light one edge with a long lighter and allow it to burn in the dish.

In some traditions, the smoke symbolises releasing your wish or intention into the universe.

Never leave a burning leaf unattended, and keep pets and children away from the smoke and flames.

🌿 WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THE ASHES?

Once the ashes have cooled completely, you can bury them in the soil to symbolise planting your intention and allowing it to grow, or scatter them outdoors to represent releasing your wish into the universe. 💜

💜 YOU DON’T HAVE TO BURN IT!

You can simply keep your bay leaf somewhere meaningful, such as in a journal, a little dish or beside your crystals.

The intention behind the ritual is what matters in these traditions, not whether you burn the leaf.

It’s a lovely little way to pause, focus on what you want and put some positive thought into the future. ✨

We often choose crystals for their colour, appearance or traditional properties, but did you know that their shape also has significance in crystal traditions?

Different shapes are believed to influence how a crystal’s energy is focused or expressed. ✨

🔮 SPHERES — Harmony & Balance

Their round shape symbolises wholeness and unity. Traditionally believed to radiate energy equally in all directions, making them popular for creating a balanced atmosphere.

💜 HEARTS — Love & Compassion

Associated with love, self-love, kindness and emotional connection. Often chosen for intentions involving relationships or personal wellbeing.

✨ TOWERS & POINTS — Focus & Intention

Traditionally used to direct or concentrate energy. Many people use them when setting intentions, meditating or working towards a particular goal.

🤲 PALM STONES — Comfort & Grounding

Their smooth shape makes them lovely to hold. Often used during meditation, quiet reflection or grounding rituals.

🌙 MOONS — Intuition & New Beginnings

Associated with feminine energy, intuition, cycles and change. Popular for moon rituals and setting intentions.

💎 PYRAMIDS — Stability & Manifestation

Their strong geometric shape is associated with grounding, focus and directing intentions towards a goal.

🌿 RAW CRYSTALS & CLUSTERS — Natural Energy & Connection

Often associated with the crystal’s natural qualities. Clusters are particularly popular for shared spaces and are traditionally believed to radiate energy throughout their surroundings.

Of course, these are spiritual associations rather than fixed rules. The mineral itself and your personal connection to it matter too. 💜

🤍 MONDAY CRYSTAL SPOTLIGHT — SELENITE

Selenite is one of those crystals that has so many different uses, and it’s one I personally use every day. 🤍

It’s a form of gypsum, known for its beautiful white, translucent appearance. In crystal traditions, Selenite is associated with cleansing, clarity, peace, protection and positive energy.

One of its most popular uses is for cleansing and charging other crystals, which is why you’ll often see Selenite charging plates and wands.

✨ WHERE SHOULD YOU KEEP SELENITE?

🛏️ Bedroom — traditionally associated with peace, relaxation and a calming atmosphere.

🚪 Near your front door — often placed here with the intention of welcoming positive energy into your home.

💎 Where you keep your crystals — place jewellery or smaller crystals on Selenite as part of your cleansing routine.

🕯️ Your meditation or quiet space — hold it while setting intentions or taking a few moments for yourself.

✨ HOW CAN YOU USE IT?

I’ve got two lovely examples:

🤍 Goddess Selenite Charging Plate — £20

This beautiful plate features a carved goddess design. It’s ideal for placing crystal bracelets, necklaces and tumble stones on.

I personally place my crystal jewellery on Selenite after wearing it. It’s become part of my daily routine. 💜

🌈 Selenite Chakra Wand — £8
10cm | 14g

This wand has seven coloured crystals representing the seven main chakras.

In chakra traditions, you can use it during meditation by holding it, focusing on your breathing and setting an intention for balance and harmony.

🌙 A SIMPLE SELENITE RITUAL

You don’t have to wait for a Full Moon!

1. Find somewhere quiet and take a few slow breaths.
2. Place your favourite crystal or jewellery on your Selenite plate, or hold your wand.
3. Think about what you’d like to release or welcome into your life.
4. If you like, say: “I release what no longer serves me and welcome peace, clarity and positive energy.”
5. Leave your crystals on the plate overnight, or spend a few quiet minutes holding your wand.

You can do this whenever you like — at the beginning of a new week, after a difficult day or simply as part of your regular crystal routine.

🤍 A LITTLE CARE TIP: Selenite is quite soft and can be damaged by water, so always keep it dry and handle it gently.

Posting this ridiculously late because it’s been one of those weeks where there just aren’t enough hours in the day 😂

I’ve been busy getting everything ready for Christmas, I definitely need staff 🤣

Any volunteers? Payment is unlimited tea and coffee, with the occasional biscuit or bit of cake thrown in 😂☕🍰

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, there are two great local markets on 💜

Saturday 10th October – Royal Arsenal Producers Market, 10–3
📍 Artillery Square, SE18 4DX
Loads of food, produce, street food, cakes, coffee and independent stalls to browse.

Then on Sunday 11th October – Lesnes Abbey Autumn Fest, 10–3 🎃🍂
📍 Lesnes Abbey, SE2 0AX
There’ll be 50+ stalls across two gardens, live music from 12pm, pumpkin decorating, free cupcake decorating for the kids, a Halloween trail, hot spiced c***r, crumble & custard, street food and plenty more.

Eavesessence will be trading at both with candles, wax melts, crystals, jewellery and more. We’ll also have Pumpkin Spice with us 🎃💜

Definitely worth a wander if you’re nearby.
