We're in Suddenly On Sheaf Street bookshop in Daventry tonight for the launch of Claire Daverley's second novel 'People in Love' described as a beautifully lyrical love triangle.

Claire Daverley was born in 1991 and has been writing stories ever since she was six years old.

Her 2023 debut novel, Talking at Night, described as a "beautiful love story", was a major success and was the 8th biggest-selling debut paperback in the UK in 2024 and the rights were sold into more than 22 global territories.

Talking at Night was shortlisted for Debut of the Year at the British Book Awards in 2023, shortlisted for the Note Bene Prize in 2024, and chosen by Fearne Cotton for the Happy Place Book Club. It was also the WHSmith's Book of the Moment and long listed for the Waterstones debut of the year.

She graduated with a degree in Fine Art from the University of Oxford. Interestingly, before becoming a full-time author, Claire spent several years at Penguin Random House working in their digital marketing department, where her daily job involved writing about and marketing other authors' books.

She has spent most of her life in Hertfordshire, but currently lives in Scotland with her husband and spaniel.

Claire revealed that her agent has successfully sold the tv rights to both books so, hopefully, we can look forward seeing these exquisite stories on the telly sometime in the not-too-distant future ♥️

Both titles are published by Penguin Books 🐧

Tonight witnessed the wonderful first-read premiere of Peter O’Mahoney's 'Taming of the Bard - the play'.

A laugh-out-loud b***y imagining of Shakespeare's l***y youth, based on Peter's much-loved novel of the same name, published last year by Suddenly Publishing.

Read aloud by members of the Suddenly Writing Club: Kim, Jane, Tracey, Deborah, Miriam, Andrew, Cheryl, Mark and Charlie with local professional actor, Aaron Mackenzie (Warfare), taking the starring role of young Will Shakespeare. The play features nine main characters in locations including Stratford-upon-Avon, Daventry and nearby Welton.

The play reading tonight was hosted at the White Horse in Welton Village.

Feedback was overwhelmingly positive and Daventry can expect to see Peter's play performed locally sometime in the next 12 months.

The Suddenly Writing Club meets at Suddenly On Sheaf Street in Daventry.

Delighted to meet Patrick Grant (Great British Sewing Bee) at the Althorp Literary Festival. Can't wait to read his book about fast-fashion and his business life.
Loved his passion for quality British-made fashion. Just wish he had equal enthusiasm for imagining a future for ethical quality fashion on the British high street.
