Celebrating sound as movement, as archive, as resonance. A gathering of artists who listen differently, create fearlessly, and carry forward the experimental spirit of Daphne Oram.
Founded by Emma Thomson in 2011, and rooted in the creative energy of Islington Mill, FatOut has become a vital force in the UK’s underground — a festival dedicated to discovering new music, producing captivating live experiences, and bringing together artists and audiences who seek the bold, the experimental, the q***r, and the unclassifiable.
This weekend, The Orams are honoured to join that spirit of fearless creation.
Our programme begins just after the Halloween haze settles. From 15:00 to 18:30, Oram Award winner and Simon East (aka ) lead a three-hour workshop, Performing with Movement-Activated Sound — an exploration of wearable technology, Live, and . The workshop is limited to 12 with the last few tickets remaining.
As evening arrives, we all ascend to the beautiful 5th Floor warehouse space - Lou returns to the stage for GINKO, performed on Echo Chamber’s 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos spatial sound system — a full sensory environment of shifting sound and space.
will be joined by dancer Rosie Terry Toogood, performing with Lola’s friction harp — an instrument tuned to the tones emitted from her own ear. Together, they invite audiences to a recalibration of listening, a meditation on sound as something deeply internal and profoundly shared.
We end the evening with another oram/100 premiere - a brand new commission by — Origin is an improvised turntable performance. Drawing from Oram’s archives, NikNak transforms Daphne’s unique sounds in real time, creating new textures through experimental scratching and live manipulation.
