The lens you pick changes everything. π
Most people think focal length just affects zoom - but it actually changes the shape of your subject's face entirely.
Here's what's happening:
Wide (24β35mm) - Exaggerates features closest to the lens. Great for environment, rough on faces.
Standard (50mm) - Closest to how the eye sees. Safe, natural, versatile.
Short tele (85mm) - The portrait sweet spot. Flatters face shape, separates subject from background beautifully.
Long tele (135mm+) - Compresses depth, slims features, dreamy background blur.
Next time you're shooting someone, ask yourself - what do I want this person to look like?
Then pick your glass accordingly.
Save this for your next shoot. π
