We’ve had a few people in the shop recently who either didn’t know we were there or didn’t know what we were about… so I thought maybe it’s time to reintroduce us!! 😎
Bearded Badger Books is a father (me, Paul) and son (Ben) enterprise who have set up a small independent bookshop in a shipping container! As you can probably imagine, space isn’t infinite in our little emporium but I’d like to think we offer a curated set of books to tickle pretty much every bookish taste! We have fiction, non-fiction, poetry and a decent helping of children’s books!
What makes Bearded Badger different? Well, we do try and put a special emphasis on giving shelf space to books that perhaps struggle to get this in larger bookshops, books from indie presses, writers that don’t have an Osman-sized marketing machine behind them.
Why? Well, that’s where the good stuff is!!! These are the publishers taking risks on new and exciting writing!!!
As well as the shop we run The Saturday Readers Club - a BYOB (Bring Your Own Book) gathering of folks who just want a bit of quiet space to read. This runs every Saturday from 9-11am, our lovely pals replenish are open for quality drinks and sweet treats… and if you are looking for your next read we offer a 10% discount during this time! We plan to extend this to running author events, writing clubs and much more - we want to build a book community in our city.
Where are we? Well you’ll find us in the corner of the new Bustler Derby complex… which you access via Sadler Gate (by the old Vines) or from St James Street. It’s a great space with some brilliant vendors; food, drink and other retail!!
Honestly, come check it out!! It’s great!!
