In the lead up to the launch of our WORK Records films in September, we’re sharing some exclusive clips from the WORK Records documentary film - a behind-the-scenes look at the people, places and processes involved in the making of WORK Records by Derby-based filmmaker Chris Bevan . Thanks to Chris for sharing these preview clips with us!

This week’s clip features project historian Dr Stefan Ramsden discussing some of the ideas behind WORK Records, as well as interview snippets with our WORK Records artists who’ve each been looking into historic working lives at three East Midlands family firms:

Saul Pankhurst exploring the archives of Stewarts & Lloyds steelworks through Corby Heritage Centre
Kim Noce looking at the history of knitwear manufacturer at the John Smedley Archive in Lea Mills;
and Kate Anderson researching Chesterfield-based packaging company Robinson and Sons through the Derbyshire Record Office and Chesterfield Museum

We can’t wait to share the artists’ animated films with you, and you’ll be able to see these together with Chris Bevan’s documentary at our premier event at Derby Museum & Art Gallery on 12 September (click the link in our bio to book tickets).

We’ll be sharing the films on our WORK Records website later in the autumn, and there’ll soon be lots of extra project resources to explore there including interviews with former workers, writing from Stefan and our project volunteers, and a timeline placing the three family firms in a wider historic context. Keep an eye out for more updates!

Chokehold is a short film set in the world of professional wrestling, but it’s about more than just the fights in the ring. Thanks to Worcester Film Festival for the opportunity to share more about our journey to bring our BFI NETWORK and Film Hub Midlands supported film to the screen, produced by camakel productions in association with YSP Media.

You can catch Chokehold at Worcester Odeon in Shorts Block 20 on Thursday 24th September from 3.15-4.30pm as part of this year’s festival programme.

Introducing the two brilliant local artists we commissioned to celebrate 50 years of Junction Arts 🎉

Poet and performer Betty Powdrill and award-winning filmmaker Christopher Bevan have created The Stories We Weave — a powerful mix of film, poetry and a travelling exhibition inspired by the real voices and experiences that have shaped Junction Arts over five decades.

You may have spotted it at the Chesterfield Children’s Festival last month 👀, from a special trail around Queen’s Park to the interactive living room, it was our first glimpse into this incredible project.

Part of our 50 Stories for 50 Years programme, supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the work brings together stories from Bolsover, Shirebrook, South Normanton, Pinxton and Chesterfield — celebrating the people, memories and moments behind our journey ✨
