Day 10 of fixing problems I see instead of moaning about them.

Planting the most expensive spice in the world round the city for anyone to harvest!

Disclaimer: there are other types of autumn crocus which are highly toxic. So please make sure you can identify saffron before harvesting. When eating food from public beds or any foraging you must be 100% sure what it is before you eat anything!

I’ve not had much luck with yellow rattle from seed so far. Has anyone got any tips to help it germinate?

I found this cute little toy kitchen set strewn over this path with the tiny fridge lying inside a real deep fat fryer, still full of oil. 🀒
It was good quality so I knew I had to clean it up and donate it as I’m sure whoever left it had intended.

Donating items is a great way of helping charities to raise money and is much better for the environment than sending them to landfill. πŸ’š

But in order for the items you donate to actually help the charity they have to be:
1️⃣ Clean, unbroken and fit for sale
2️⃣ Left in an appropriate place- i.e. INSIDE the donations bin or handed to the volunteers inside a charity shop.

Leaving bags of donations outside means they can get damaged, stained or stolen. They will be treated by the council as flytipping and could potentially land you a hefty fine!

If in doubt then just give your local charity shop a call and they can tell you if they accept the things you plan to donate and when their opening hours are.

Big thanks to Treetops Allenton Charity Shop for letting me film inside and for generally being such wonderful people. 🧑

Head on down to Allenton in Derby if you want to buy this cute little set!

A random brick in there?! πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Just a really quick one today as I want to show that something as simple as picking up a few bits of litter can have a big impact.
Look how beautiful this herb bed looks once it is clean. 😍🌸

I have some videos I’m really excited about coming out over the weekend so watch out for those!

It seems this one may not be a problem anymore! 🀞

The community have done such a great job caring for and respecting these beds. They are always free of litter when I visit.

After so many disappointing thefts and damage in other beds I went into these ones feeling guarded, nervous that I would lose more plants.

I chose relatively cheap bedding plants like alyssum and snapdragons, with Rosemary for the centre.

Today the beds are full and thriving and this gives me hope and confidence to put in more expensive plants in the autumn and next spring.πŸ’š

Ok, I did moan about this one. πŸ˜…

In the past I would have left the poo on the floor and gone home grumbling about my shoes.

But now my mindset has changed and I am considering who will deal with problems such as this- and realised that likely no one would.

This was on a weekend and I can’t imagine a complaint to the council would have been dealt with until Monday?

So I sorted it to avoid the same thing happening to someone else.

Day 5 of fixing problems rather than moaning about them. 🌸

Big thanks to Derby LIVE for letting me film from the cafe and for promising to keep the bed watered. πŸ’š
