To those new to Walk with the Wild my previous visits to Africa changed the way I looked at dogs.
I originally went there with a background in dog training, behaviour, scent and tracking.
But working alongside conservation dogs and the people behind them showed me how much bigger that world can be.
Dogs working alongside handlers and spending time with K9 Conservation and seeing the bond they share.
Training with highly skilled trackers and field guides and learning to read the ground and the environments.
Being in communities living alongside wildlife. Children learning why their dogs and animals around them are worth protecting.
And something that has stayed with me is that conservation isn't only about wildlife.
It's about people too.
It's about education, communities, dogs and finding ways for people and wildlife to live alongside one another.
That's why Africa will always be part of Walk With The Wild.
And later this year I get the opportunity to go back.
I'll be heading to Zimbabwe with Take Action Zimbabwe before returning to HAART - Helping All Animals in Rural Towns, where I'll be spending time with the K9s around the rescue dogs, communities and the Wildlife Warriors.
Not because I have all the answers.
I'm going back to learn, participate, listen and share some of that world with you and bring what I learn back into Walk With The Wild.
Because whether you own a dog here in the UK or other parts of the world and sharing environments with nature or looking at conservation thousands of miles away, the principle isn't actually that different.
The more we understand our dogs, our environment and the lives we share it with, the better choices we can make.
Be curious. Stay wild. Leave a positive track 🐾🌿
