Decisions.

1. - Many of you will know that I had a liver transplant about a year ago. Over the last few months it has gone a bit wonky - a problem with bile drainage. The consultants have tried varying meds and looked at stents but now think that the best option is to consider a 2nd transplant. I have an assessment for that at The Royal Free hospital on May 1st. There’s no way of knowing when that all might happen - last time it was a few weeks but next time could be weeks, months or even years plus at least 6 months recovery.

2. We are likely to be moving to Shakespeare’s own county in Warwickshire in the next few months (closer to some of the wider family). Mags has had an offer accepted.

I’ve been refitting the studio for a while but everything has slowed down as my health issues have gathered pace. So I’ve decided to close the studio down and get it ready for relocation and downsizing. We hope to reinstall in the garage of the new house. It will be smaller so probably more suited to duos. I’d like to have it ready to move before transplant 2 takes place - ideally it would’ve moved by then to the new house, but it won’t be anywhere near unless I stop the refit and start breaking it down. There will be a load of stuff going up for sale as I whittle down the kit to the new footprint.

So thanks everyone for being part of our universe. It will continue elsewhere as a solar system once I have got past this pesky op (assuming assessment goes OK).

BTW- my parting au revoir will be completion of The Utopia Strong session that we recorded last year that up till now I’ve not managed to turn around.

Meanwhile here’s a pic of a Kandinsky cushion cover that we picked up at the marvellous Frameless exhibition in London a few months back!!!

Things have been a bit quiet at Visual Radio Arts for the last couple of months whilst I gradually complete a full refit of the studio. Hoping to get it all finished by the end of January. Main change is brand new Presonus Series 3 32S desk, but have also undertaken a full rewire throughout - removing stuff that is surplus to requirement, simplifying wiring routes, changing some of the kit around. I'm now about 20% in completing a full EET (PAT test in old money). The last band we recorded in 2024 was The Utopia Strong. Hoping to have that ready for viewing in a few weeks. Already got some dates in the calendar for 2025 sessions - more on the who and when as the details get nailed. Meanwhile here are pics from The Utopia Strong session.

Hi world - things have been a bit quiet (literally) at Visual Radio Arts since Feb when we took a medical hiatus and timeout for some post op recovery. The great news is that we are now on the way back and have a bunch of sessions booked in.

In Aug/Sept we will be recording a session with Custard Flux and a unique one-off collaboration between Andy Roid Music, jah buddha and Brian Abbott.

In Sept/Oct we'll be welcoming the enigma that is The Utopia Strong featuring Kavus Torabi, Steve Davis and Michael J York and a couple of weeks later the spooky, ethereal Chantelle Smith and Richard Wileman.

So, if you love the wonkiest music, stay tuned to Visual Radio Arts. Meanwhile here are a few behind the scenes photos from our last show with Kavus in February

SOUNDCHECK featuring KAVUS TORABI

Live at Soundcheck Devizes
Recorded on Saturday 17th February 2024

Kavus Torabi is a musician, composer, record label owner and radio broadcaster. A multi-instrumentalist, he is known for his work in the psychedelic, avant-garde rock field (primarily as a guitarist). Torabi was one of the founding members of Monsoon Bassoon, was a member of cult group Cardiacs and fronts and plays guitar for the current lineup of legendary psychedelic band Gong. In 2023 he was invited by Steve Hillage, along with the other current members of Gong, to tour as The Steve Hillage Band.

Kavus is also a third of The Utopia Strong and sometimes tours and records with The Holy Family, Mediaeval Babes and Miranda S*x Garden in addition to collaborations with other notable artists working in left-field music.

Kavus Torabi's songs dwell on mortality, love and loss. He uses disquieting themes as a way of establishing a context for transcendent bliss. This Soundcheck performance showcases Kavus's solo work - a voice, a harmonium and a guitar, augmented by effects and loops.

Welcome to Visual Radio Arts

A few years ago we wondered where those great shows had gone - the ones where you first fell in love with bands that you’d never heard of before, the shows that brought you live performances from artists who later (sometimes much later) became household names, the ones that opened a window on music that you’d never experienced and now can’t live without. The Whistle Tests, the Tubes, The Lift-Offs with Ayshea (ok, bit dodgy, but Roy Wood was a regular!) have gone and it seems that today’s TV is only interested in the bigger names. So we decided to create our own show and livestream it to Facebook Live. We call that show Soundcheck.

SOUNDCHECK is FREE to watch and it’s FREE for the bands who come on the show. The crew do it for FREE because ... we love live music. If you love what we do please LIKE and share our page and join our Facebook group for bands and fans called #welovelivemusic.

Everything is free, except for the bills - about £1200 per month so if you’d like to help us keep the shows on the road please donate the price of a coffee (and if you’re feeling really generous, the cost of a cake). If I’m watching a band in a bar somewhere, I’ll buy a coffee - this is the same thing . Click here

We also broadcast LIVE music from our shows 24/7 on SOUNDCHECK RADIO click here to listen
