Mal Signature Services A comic fan service that can get signatures/sketches from the biggest names in the business around the UK for fans who are unable to attend the events.

ravel long distances to these events. With a small service fee of £7.50 for a signature and £15 for a sketch (plus P&P), you also get a COA and a Photo print of the guest with each request. A bit late to mention this, but there is a cool little festival down in Brum: High-Viz Festival that I’ll be heading down for the first time! It’s the first time I’ve heard about this, but looks like a decent setup with a great Guest line up!

I will be going to MCM London on the 24th May. A generally packed out show, but mainly focused on TV and movie guests, they still put out a great line up in the comic artist alley.

So...

I've been thinking about attending Lake Como next month, but because of the cost of travel, accommodation and the ticket itself, I wanted to see how many people would actually want something from the show to justify going. I haven't looked at commission prices, but I know it will not be cheap and I will have to up my services fee to justify the trip (£100 fee per sketch!).

The Lakes International Comic Art Festival Review:

The Lakes show is always an enjoyable experience and one of the more unique shows I go to, as they concentrate on panels, exhibitions and workshops more than anything else. It’s also one of the wettest shows to go to: It’s called the Lake District for a reason!

Day one was the busier day of the weekend, everyone scrambling to see their favourite guests, and a lot of the panels were full before even starting. For me, seeing the guests and getting signatures/sketches was my priority, so I mainly stayed in the Marketplace (good thing as well as the rain really hit hard that day). Managed to see Sean & Jacob Phillips, Terry Moore and some of his amazing artwork beside him, Jorge Fornés, collected a pre-show commission piece from Bruno Redondo and saw the very energetic Dan Panosian. Unfortunately, Bryan Talbot didn't have a table this time around, but managed to catch him as he was walking around to grab a quick signature. Towards the end of the day, Dan and Michael were kind enough to do a few sketches after their signing session. I managed to get a sketch off Michael, but as the show was about to close, he kindly offered to do a couple more on Sunday after the big comic book draw panel (alongside Sean Phillips, Dan Panosian and Junko Mizuno). Just before I left the show, I managed to sneak into Juanjo Guarnido's queue just before he finished signing and got a little sketch in my book! (I highly recommend read his Blacksad collection).

Sunday was calmer (and drier!) compared to Saturday, so managed to have a look around the marketplace a bit more. Unfortunately, I was late arriving in the morning and missed Dave McKean's Black Dog play and Juanjo Guarnido's panel! However, I got to see Dave during his signing session and signed/sketch everything I gave him (I always impressed how quickly he draw such beautiful pieces!) I watched the Batman Day Big Draw with Sean, Michael, Dan & Junko showing their artistic skills for everyone to enjoy (and Dan gave away his piece to one kid from the audience!). And true to his word, Michael and I walked over to the cafe in the Old Laudry Theatre and proceeded to sketch two more pieces for me. A truly great and grateful moment, what a legend!

Alright! Another show 2 weeks after To Be Continued: The Lakes International Comic Art Festival! Set in the newly relocated town of Bowness-on-Windermere, it’s definitely the prettiest place a comic event to visit, as long as you don’t mind the rain!
