As of April 3, 2026, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed to have shot down a U.S. F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter jet over central Iran. This is the second such claim made by Iran since the conflict began on February 28, 2026.

Key Details of the Incident
• Iranian Claim: The IRGC stated that the aircraft was hit by a new, advanced air defense system and crashed in the Markazi province of central Iran. They reported a "massive explosion" on impact and stated that the pilot’s survival is unlikely.

• U.S. Response: U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has denied these claims, asserting that no U.S. fighter aircraft have been shot down by Iranian fire during the conflict.

• Disputed Status: While Iranian state media has released photos of alleged wreckage, some analysts suggest the debris appears more consistent with an F-15E fighter than an F-35.

Context of Previous Claims
This follows a similar report from March 19, 2026, where Iran claimed to have struck an F-35. In that instance, the U.S. confirmed an F-35 was forced to make an emergency landing after flying a combat mission over Iran, but stated the pilot was safe and the jet was not shot down.
