It's Higher Rhythm's birthday today (well technically tomorrow, but close enough) and it's a big one...

Believe it or not, we've now been around for a quarter of a century 😳 Yep, a full 25 years and still going strong 💪

It has to be said, that's not a bad achievement for a Social Enterprise operating mainly in the area of Music Industry development.

Massive thanks and appreciation to everyone who has supported us, and trusted us, over all these years; you're why we do, what we do 🙏

We've been working as a strategic partner of South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority Music Hub and Doncaster Music Service for quite a few years now. Our very own Zawedde, sits on the hub board and we work closely with the music services through the year, but particularly in delivering the Stage Invasion Live, project finale event every year at The Dome, Doncaster.

Earlier this year the Music Service set up a free rehearsal space for young people at their Bentley My Place centre. One of the things that the budget didn't cover however, was music production equipment, essentially a decent computer for electronic composition and recording.

So… Yesterday, Ewan, who looks after music at the centre, paid us a visit to collect an iMac which we’ve now donated to add that 'missing piece' to their music-space. We couldn’t be happier that this Mac has found a new home where young people will be using it to make music for years to come ❤

One of the most fulfilling things about doing what we do, is seeing people who've been through our programmes, progress and succeed in the music industry.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of welcoming back, if only for a few minutes (they are busy guys...) Courtney Cuffy and Kelvin Wood, two Higher Rhythm alumni who now run Elevated Studios in North Doncaster.

It's good to know that even though they are now smashing it on their own, we can still do something to support them, so we donated one of our higher-spec iMacs (which have recently become disused) so they can set up a second room at their studio.

Keep at it guys, Doncaster's music scene needs people just like you who are willing to put in the graft and make more good things happen 💪🏼 🙏🏼

Higher Rhythm's visual art game is growing; our public pieces have been springing up around Doncaster City Centre more and more over the past years.

We're really proud of how our Doncaster Sound Memories permanent exhibition, complete transformed Princegate Alley. (We have another big announcement about a big commission soon, but that’s a secret for now…)

As we've developed Higher Rhythm's HQ, external and internal art has become more of a feature. So, last year we had an idea to bring together legendary, outstanding, bizarre, funny, or simply ridiculous moments in music, into a large-scale collage. I wanted to capture the more familiar moments, like the time that Bjork attacked a journalist in the airport (nobody was seriously hurt so I suppose we can laugh about it now?) but also little Easter-eggs for the real music train spotters. This turns it into a bit of a game; where you get some of it straight away, but are puzzled by some of it too.

We took the concept to my long-time visual art co-conspirator, Jamie Bubb to render the images, arranging them into a collage.

In discussing with the printer came a ‘happy accident’. We were limited to either using materials we didn't want, or creating it in sections, as the size meant we were hampered by access in the upstairs corridor. We asked the printer to reel off a list of what they can print on, and the word "wallpaper" jumped out.

This gave us the idea to rework the collage into a repeating pattern in the style of 1970s/1980s kids' bedroom wallpaper.

A year in development, we’re proud to unveil “The Wonderful and Frightening World of the Music Industry"

This now on display upstairs at Higher Rhythm’s Nether Hall Road site.
