A full gig-from blank space to standing ovation-run entirely by the young people at HR!

From setting up mics and hanging dairy lights to booking the lineup and packing down, this open mic night wasn’t just for young people, it was BY them. Every step, every cable, every song.

Here’s a little tour through what went down 👇


1. This is Common Room Sessions. A & G kick us off with what it’s all abouy. Plus a little rewind of the night’s magic.

2. The blank canvas. Common Room, 5 hours before showtime.

3. No production crew. Just students. Wiring the room for sound, one cable at a time. 🙌

4. The gig doesn’t happen without this moment. Making sure every mic, every monitor, every note is ready.

5. Because good gigs glow. A on sparkle duty.

6. Teamwork and top-of-the-chairs energy. Turning ceilings into skylines.

7. Almost ready. A little light, a little love - and it’s showtime.

8. It’s not just the performers that make a gig. It’s the people who show up.

9. Engineers of the night. Mixing live sound like pros.

10. Roots run deep. A visit from those who paved the way.

These short sessions, are the perfect way to find out more about the course, meet the tutors and enjoy a tour of our studios and learning facility.

So we asked ChatGPT simply to remove shadows from the ground in a photograph of the public exhibition space on the corner of our building… nothing more, just a simple instruction.

See the before and after below… don't know whether this is hilarious or terrifying! It seems to have inserted Princess Anne at the top directly to the right of the building corner. Most of the other images look like visions of Hell!

Higher Rhythm is expanding! We’re on the lookout for a part-time tutor to join our small but mighty Higher Education team delivering our HND in Music Technology and Sound Engineering.

✅ 2 days a week (0.4 FTE)
📍 Based in Doncaster
💷 £30450 pro rata per annum (£12,180/year for 0.4 FTE/two days weekly)
📅 Apply by 30th May 2025

Our Higher Education programme is nationally unique — only 12 students per intake, taught in a real working industry facility.

We’re looking for someone with relevant experience/qualifications who’s passionate about shaping future careers in the music industry. Sound like you?
