It has been yet another great month of exhibitions in Doncaster. Working in collaboration with the Don Catchment Rivers Trust (DCRT), ecological artist Fatima Alaiwat led with an artistic study of the Don at the ArtBomb space at the Doncaster Unitarians Church on Hall Gate. Fatima's piece has since been expanded upon by the the DCRT and joined by photographs from Ric Woolrich. Art Bomb has been putting on consistently thought provoking exhibitions throughout 2025 and we're excited to see what happens next... especially as it involves our wonderful friend, Terry Hudson!
Over at Danum Gallery, Library and Museum the 'Dunhuang to Doncaster' exhibition featuring the incredibly talented Olivia Pang, who has created dozens of mural reproductions of ancient Buddhist cave paintings. The murals are the result of Olivia’s participation in the ‘Silk Road Mural Study and Replication Project” organized by the China National Academy of Arts. The works that Olivia has made faithfully recreate the techniques, colours, and spiritual narratives of the Dunhuang and Xinjiang cave murals, which were made between the 4th and 14th centuries.
We heard good things too about Right Up Our Street's 'Doncaster Fetival of Light 25' at Doncaster Minster. This is always an incredible event and we were very sad to miss it.
Despite the loss of two galleries since COVID and the gallery being refurbished at The Point, Donny city centre's cultural output is still very significant. Our only weakness is supporting the grassroots and local talent, and providing a visible pathway for people who want to work in the creative industry sector, but Doncopolitan is focused on changing that!
