UK CAT OWNERS WARNING: Face £500 Fines as Cat Abandonment Surges in Heatwave

Thousands of cat owners in England could risk severe penalties as strict microchipping enforcement comes into effect alongside a growing animal welfare crisis.
According to a shocking new BBC report, the number of abandoned cats in RSPCA care has surpassed dogs for the first time in recent weeks, driven by peak breeding season and the summer heatwave.

Here’s what every pet owner in the UK needs to know right now 👇

📌 The Law: Under regulations in England, all cats must be microchipped and registered before reaching 20 weeks of age.

📌 Strict Deadline: If caught without a chip, owners are given a strict 21-day notice to comply.

📌 Hefty Fine: Failure to microchip within the 21 days can lead to a fine of up to £500.

📌 Shelters Overwhelmed: Animal shelters across the country are rapidly running out of capacity as hundreds of stray and abandoned cats pour into rescue centres.

Welfare groups are urging all cat owners to ensure their pets are microchipped and details are kept up to date to avoid legal trouble and help reunite lost pets quickly.
