Do You Have An Idea To Improve the NHS?

Residents in Downham Market and surrounding villages are being encouraged to attend a consultation session about the future of the NHS.

Terry Jermy, Member of Parliament for South West Norfolk is hosting a session in Downham Market on Saturday 1st February 2025, from 10.30am – 12.30pm.

This is part of a national consultation – ‘Fixing Our Broken NHS – A 10 Year plan’.

Terry Jermy MP said; “As we are all aware, the NHS is under severe pressure and the Government has made it a key priority to address the problems it faces. Whether you use the NHS or work in it, you see first-hand what’s great, but also what isn’t working. The Government have launched the biggest conversation about the future of the NHS since its founding in 1948 – and as your MP I’m inviting you to have your say”.

As part of this consultation, Mr Jermy has been meeting with local healthcare professionals to discuss the challenges they face and opportunities for improvement. He recently met with staff at School Lane Surgery in Thetford and plans to meet others later this month. The recent visit came as the Government announced an extra £889m nationally specifically for GP services.

Health and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting said: “Today the NHS is going through the worst crisis in its history. But while the NHS is broken, it’s not beaten. Together, we can fix it. Whether you use the NHS or work in it, you see first-hand what’s great, but also what isn’t working. We need your ideas to help turn the NHS around. In order to save the things we love about the NHS, we need to change it. Our 10 Year Health Plan will transform the NHS to make it fit for the future, and it will have patients’ and staff’s fingerprints all over it.

Downham Market you did us proud!

Thank you for supporting us and coming out to share the 2024 switch on!

As you will see from the photo, crowds were just as big as always!

Thank you to all the traders and stallholders who trusted us and still attended. The weather was not as forecast in Downham Market. Wind speeds at their maximum were 20.9 mph and that was caused by a gust.

Thank you to the schools who sang for our community. This is always a special experience.

Robyn and Rhys were absolute stars and shined bright at the time of the switch on.

It was amazing to have the support of Terry Jermy MP and Deputy Mayor of the Borough Council, Andy Bullen.

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped to make this a successful event.
