Bloom&Be is a Journal / Exercise Book that includes tools, tips, exercises, visual aids and activities to help young carers build routines, connect with family and express their emotions.

Rtd Reflective Essay 🧾💻

For the other part of my Research through design module, we were required to write a 5000 word reflective essay on how I got to my final product which was Bloom&Be.

This essay was split up into sections such as Abstract, Introduction, Literature Review, Methodology, Findings and Discussion, Understanding Stage, Limitations, Future Work, Conclusion, References and Appendices.

I went with a similar theme as my journal so the essay could be clean and professional looking.

For the module Research through design. The brief was:
“Working with Hallmark, this project brief asks the question How Might we learn and gain insights into expressing, demonstrating or supporting care through proposed speculative products and/or services that adds value to our physical, mental, social and/or emotional wellbeing?”

I chose to focus my vision on Young Carers and creating something for them. Bloom&Be is a journal / activity book for young carers which includes tools, tips, exercises, visual aids and activities to help young carers build routines, connect with family and express their emotions.

Ecomo which was derived from being “Environmentally conscious through mobility”. is an app that aims to promote sustainable commuting (walking, cycling, skating etc) among students and staffs on campus through a simple, socially engaging, and reward-based system as they interact with the app.

Ecomo App Poster📱🧾

As a second part of the Service Prototyping Module, Our Team: Christian, Nanditha and Myself. We had to submit a poster around our concept of Sustainable Mobility. The Breif states:

“You will need to create a concept poster as part of your presentation to visually convey the essence of your final product, service and/or system concept, as well as a showcasing a portfolio of physical and digital prototypes”

We came up with Ecomo, an app which would be built within the University of Dundee’s website. Helping Navigate students around Campus. We submitted the poster & App wireframes for this deadline.

Reflection Postcards✏️🎇

As a part of the Service Prototyping module, I was required to submit 10 reflective postcards with what we have learned throughout the module as a whole.

This submission included 8 reflections, 1 summary and one bibliography. The bibliography is not included here as it was full of references I used throughout each postcard.

This submisison was a lovely break from the heavy hitting projects and gave me a space to enjoy design again in a more playful way. Next submission will tie off this module with a group project.

MotionAid Reflection Journal ✏️🪩

For our second submission of module three (changing populations) we were required to submit an article on our reflections of the module. This was 2500 and was to be designed accordingly.

MotionAid Animation Projections 📽️🎞️

To make my projections for module three a reality, I had to create some animations to show on the projector. I had to quickly learn animation in 2 days, as I had never done this before.

Each aspect of these animations have been animated separately, from plants to each animal. Each animation had over 140 frames to complete them.

I’m proud of myself of this. I used flipaclip to make the animations and I used ibis paint for each assets such as backgrounds and images.

I would love to dive more into animation in the future.🩷

MotionAid Presentation Boards🩹⛑️

This was the first submission of module three changing populations. We were required to submit 4 A3 size boards of our research process and development work.

The concept of Motion aid is as follows:

“MOTIONAID IS AN IDEA BASED ON PROJECTIONS TO HELP DEVELOP AND REGAIN MOVEMENT OF STROKE VICTIMS, THIS WAS ALSO MADE TO IMPROVE MENTAL HEALTH OF STAFF AND PATIENTS THROUGH ANIMATIONS AND COLOUR. MOTIONAID WAS CREATED TO BRING PERSONALITY AND FUN INTO THE WALLS OF THE ROYAL VICTORIA HOSPITAL, TO BRING A LIGHTER ATMOSPHERE AND BECOME MORE WELCOMING TO ALL IN NEED OF THE OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY PROVIDED THERE.

THE ANIMATIONS PROVIDED WITHIN MOTIONAID ARE, AN OCEAN ATMOSPHERE WHERE PATIENTS CAN FOLLOW FISH AROUND THE SCREEN, A NATURE THEME WHERE PATIENTS CAN FOLLOW BIRDS AND POINT OUT OBJECTS WITHIN THE ANIMATION AND FINALLY A FOLLOW THE BUBBLE SCENE WHERE PATIENTS CAN TRACE THE MOVEMENTS OF THE BUBBLES THAT APPEAR. ALL ANIMATIONS INCLUDED WERE CREATED TO FOCUS ON BALANCE, ARM MOVEMENTS, TRACING, TRACKING AND SPEECH. AS EACH DIFFERENT SCREEN HAS MULTIPLE ASSETS WHICH CAN BE SPOKEN ABOUT AND WORKED ON THROUGH OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY.

EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS CREATED TO ENHANCE MOVEMENT AND THE WELLBEING OF THE PATIENTS, IT’S ALSO IMPORTANT TO HIGHLIGHT HOW THIS PROJECT WILL ENHANCE THE FACILITY ROOM THAT IS USED.
EVEN WHEN THIS ISN’T BEING USED FOR REHABILITATION PURPOSES, MOTIONAID CAN BE USED AS AN ANIMATION WALL WHICH IS GENERALLY NICE TO LOOK AT, THIS CAN HELP VISITORS AND PATIENTS FEEL WELCOME AND CALM WITHIN THE HOSPITAL. MOTIONAID ANIMATIONS WILL TAKE AWAY THE DULLNESS OF THIS ONCE WHITE ROOM”

“ELEMENTALBREATH IS A HANDHELD PEBBLE SHAPED DEVICE THAT CONTROLS A USER’S BREATHING.
THIS SMALL BUT MIGHTY PEBBLE CONTAINS MULTIPLE DIFFERENT BREATHING TECHNIQUES TO FIT ANY USER’S NEEDS. THE LIGHT THAT SHINES WITHIN THIS PEBBLE HAS BEEN SPECIFICALLY CHOSEN TO CHANNEL A PERSON’S INNER CORE. YELLOW FOR WARMTH, GREEN FOR SAFETY, BLUE FOR PURPOSE, PURPLE FOR STRENGTH AND PINK FOR CALMNESS. ELEMENTALBREATH WILL HAVE MULTIPLE PEBBLES TO CHOOSE FROM TO SUIT EVERYONE. EACH PEBBLE IS CRAFTED FROM REAL ROCKS FOUND ON LOCAL BEACHES. BY USING NATURAL MATERIALS SUCH AS ROCKS AND RECYCLED FABRIC THIS CAN HELP USERS FEEL GROUNDED AND CLOSER TO THE EARTH. TO ACTIVE THE LIGHTING OF THE PEBBLE, SIMPLY TILT TO TURN THE DEVICE ON, AND SHAKE TO BEGIN THE BREATHING TECHNIQUES. THIS HAS BEEN MADE TO TAKE AWAY THE STRESS OF USING APPLICATIONS ON MOBILE DEVICES AND REDUCE SCREEN TIME USAGE. THIS PERFECTLY BLENDED DEVICE IS ALL YOU NEED TO CHANNEL YOUR MENTAL WELLBEING. ALL YOU NEED IS YOU, A SET OF LUNGS AND YOUR PEBBLE.”

For this project, we had to submit a one minute video, a pictorial paper, hero image, project summary and a presentation piece. I’m super excited how this project turned out and hoping I get good marks on it. Would also like to thank .does.art for being my actress for the 1 minute video🩷

Co-Design Article ✏️📚

For our second submission of module one (design thinking) we were required to submit an article on co-design. This was 1500 and was to be designed accordingly.

At the start of this project. We were given professionals to interview and speak to about co-design. I was given Chris Cameron. Who was a previous student at djcad and is now a senior user researcher for the ministry of justice.

Chris gave some great insight into the topic of co-design and really opened up about his experience. Thank you Chris ✨
