The pre dawn eastern sky lit up by the moon in Andalucia.The constellation of Orion is about to fade into blue sky for another day.
I remember being fascinated as a young boy seeing pictures of the Orion Nebula(M42) just below the three stars of Orion’s Belt .New stars like our sun are being borne there just now.Its a star nursery !
Our skies are so clear in Andalucia you can see it with the naked eye as a fuzzy blob as the upper of two stars below Orion’s Belt in this photo.
And the most amazing thing for me is that it is so far away that I was seeing this nebula as it was 1340 years ago.!That’s how long it took the light to travel from there to us this morning.
Wonderful.
