15 years of being a type one diabetic

I can’t believe it has been 15 years already where has time gone. If you don’t know already on the 23th Augest 2009 I was diagnosed with Type one diabetes at the age of 7. I was the first one in my primary school with it.

People don’t realise how hard it can be to live with diabetes. We have to deal with diabetic burnouts, mental struggles, getting stared at or people making comments about where i should be doing my injections.
If you were to ask me “would I ever give my diabetes up?” Apart of me would say yes as it can be annoying and a struggle at times but the other part of me would say No, as it is all I have ever known and it would feel weird without it.

I want to say thank you to my family and friends for always being there for me and guiding me and help me through my diabetes for the past 15 years that your love and support I could not have done it so thank you 🤍

Anyone visiting Liverpool anytime soon definitely go to Knowsley Safari There is something for everyone. very accessible as well for all types of disability and the staff are amazing. You can drive around the safari, walk or take their bus.

P.S beware of the cheeky monkeys when driving around as they may borrow a few things from ur car 🙈🐒

Thank you so much ❤️

Thank you so much ❤️

Congratulations to past pupil, Jane Dunseath, on her successful educational journey since leaving us. We trust you will be able to pursue your educational dreams. It’s fantastic to read about your progress since leaving us! Well done Jane! Another Donaghey pupil continuing to make us proud!

Jane was a guest speaker at South West College Dungannon’s Celebration of Success Day, inspiring others to make their dreams happen, just like she continues to do! 👏🏼

What can I say today has been a day like no other. I want to say a massive thank you to for giving me a platform to share my story. I didn’t even realise how far I actually had gotten and achieved by the age of 22 until today. I am proud of where I am today. I’m not going to lie it was been a tough path but I wouldn’t change a single part. I want also say a massive congratulations to all the students who received an award you deserve it and should be very proud of yourself. ❤️❤️

AND

A massive shout out to . I have said it once and I will say it again. Fey thank you for everything and I mean everything. We have had some laughs over the years. Like getting the wrong lougzade for my sugar level and even nearly setting the smoke alarms off while baking😂😂 but I wouldn’t change these memories for anything. You have done so much for me and you haven’t even realised. And after 8 years + our friendship just keeps growing stronger each time so thank you. ❤️❤️

Thank you to former student Jane Dunseath, who joined us today at our Dungannon Campus Celebration of Success, to share her post-SWC journey and to inspire us all to make our dreams happen.

Jane, a previous winner at the Celebration of Success, first came to the college as a Year 11 Occupational Studies student, joining us as a full-time student for Level 2, then Level 3 childcare. Having not reached her full potential in her GCSEs, others judged Jane’s future career as slightly uncertain and questioned her ability to reach her goals, but she was sure that she wanted to work with children with special educational needs. With the support of the college and her can-do attitude, Jane is currently completing her honours Degree in Special Educational Needs and Disability Studies at Liverpool Hope University. Jane also campaigns to raise awareness for hidden disabilities having been diagnosed with Diabetes and ASD at a young age.

As our awards season comes to an end, we would also like to acknowledge each and every student who has completed their course this year. We see and appreciate your hard work. 💪

Check back tomorrow for photos of our awards winners, and thank you to all who attended today.
