The best of Scottish comedy is coming to Dunoon!

An outstanding line up of talent is heading your way on Friday 12th December, as Cowal Comedy Club presents a night of top quality stand up in the Burgh Hall.

Headlining is award-winning Clydebank comedian Stephen Buchanan. Stephen is a well-known face (and voice) to fans of Scottish comedy, with appearances on the likes of The Now Show, Jonathan Ross’ Comedy Club and The Comedy Underground, as well as being one of the co-hosts of the popular Some Laugh podcast. He has had more than his fair share of industry recognition for his talents, having won the prestigious BBC New Comedy Award (the first Scottish comedian to ever take this UK-wide prize) as well as Scottish Comedian of the Year. He has been described as “An absolute joy from start to finish” (The Sunday Post), and we can’t wait to set him loose in Dunoon.

Opening the show is Mick McNeill – described by the Daily Record as “a rising star of Scottish comedy”, McNeill is a regular at top comedy clubs such as The Stand, and has recently been support act for the likes of Connor Burns and Chris Kent.

We have also hand-picked two of the best up-and-coming acts in Scotland, Canadian Jodie Sloan (over 100m online views, “Exciting comedy newcomer” The Stage) and Daniel Petrie (Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2023).

The host for the evening will be Dunoon’s own Roddy Gordon, who is resident compere at Blackfriars Comedy Club in Glasgow and was nominated for the Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award as part of Glasgow International Comedy Festival 2024.

If you enjoyed the legend Darren Connell when he headlined the first Cowal Comedy Club, then you should check out this 5 minute short film he has made for Channel 4. It’s all about having a mental family - we’re sure plenty of you can relate!

Had the absolute privilege to make something with Conor Reilly for channel 4.

So many people involved in making this and giving me an actual chance to do something, it means the world.

If you could check it out and let me know what you think, it would mean a lot, thank you ❤️

Thanks so much to everyone who came out on Friday to support the first ever edition of Cowal Comedy Club, and to raise money for the Burgh Hall.

The night was a massive success, and judging by the audience reactions it won’t be too long until we’re bringing stand up comedy back to Cowal - watch this space for developments!

Have you got your tickets yet for our comedy fundraiser for Dunoon Burgh Hall on Friday 9th May? Don't miss out on an outstanding line up of talent, headlined by Darren Connell (aka Bobby from Scot Squad).

Connell is one of the best and most unique acts on the Scottish circuit, who recently headlined the King's Theatre in Glasgow. He was nominated for a BAFTA Scotland New Talent Award, and has been described by The Scotsman as: "Connell’s timing is spot on... his observational humour is both sharp and relatable, leaving the audience in fits of laughter.”

We're delighted to be bringing Darren to Cowal, but he's not the only talent on this stacked lineup. We also have opener Jay Lynch, one of Ireland's finest exports who has made a name for himself on the Glasgow circuit with regular performances at The Stand and other top comedy clubs (“Big laughs big energy.”- The Stand). We have also hand picked two of the best up-and-coming acts in Scotland, Jack Brookmyre (shortlisted for BBC New Comedian of the Year 2024) and Beth Knight ("This show is an example of why the Fringe is wonderful" One4Review).

The host for the evening will be Dunoon's own Gordon, who is resident compere at Blackfriars Comedy Club in Glasgow and was nominated for the Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award as part of Glasgow International Comedy Festival 2024.

All proceeds from this event will help keep Dunoon Burgh Hall open, so why not come out for a laugh and support your local arts venue?

The best of Scottish comedy is coming to Dunoon!

An outstanding line up of talent is coming to Dunoon on Friday 9th May, as Cowal Comedy Club presents a night of laughter to raise funds for Dunoon Burgh Hall.

Headlining on the night is Glaswegian comedian Darren Connell. Best known as loveable cult icon Bobby from BBC's Scot Squad (for which he was nominated for a BAFTA Scotland New Talent Award), Darren is one of the best and most unique acts on the Scottish circuit and recently headlined the King's Theatre in Glasgow. In a review, the Scotsman said: "Connell’s timing is spot on... his observational humour is both sharp and relatable, leaving the audience in fits of laughter.” We're delighted to be bringing a comedian of Darren's calibre to Dunoon.

The lineup also includes opener Jay Lynch, one of Ireland's finest exports who has made a name for himself on the Glasgow circuit with regular performances at The Stand and other top comedy clubs (“Big laughs big energy.”- The Stand). We have also hand picked two of the best up-and-coming acts in Scotland, Jack Brookmyre (shortlisted for BBC New Comedian of the Year 2024) and Beth Knight ("This show is an example of why the Fringe is wonderful" One4Review).
