COME AND JOIN US ON SATURDAY IN LEIGHTON BUZZARD HIGH STREET for our first LBDAHS 'POP IN' session between 11am and 2pm at the new CultureCo:LB space (formally Wilkos).

Oodles of local history to discover - from Leighton House, the impressive home of Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild while he was building Waddesdon Manor that once stood on the Wilkos site, to the secret role of LB and Q Central during WW2, to Old Linslade's medieval Holy Well excavations, to the fascinating history and renovation of the iconic 15th Century Market Cross and its patron, Alice Chaucer, Lady of the Manor in the 1400s and granddaughter of medieval writer Geoffrey Chaucer. Plus lots more!

LBDAHS members will also be there to talk to you about any local history topics, places, or time periods you're interested in, to hear your own stories and memories, to answer any questions (if we can!), and to assess any artefacts or treasures you may have found, dug up, or inherited from across the town and surrounding villages.

It's a great opportunity to learn more and engage with the town's fascinating long and rich heritage. Everyone welcome. Tell your friends and family too.

Also in the space on Saturday will be a special interactive large-scale weaving workshop, Dream Weaving, hosted by textile artist Sara Snowden.

And if you, or anyone you know, is a big LEGO fan, pop in the following day on Sunday for a huge LEGO Festival between 11am and 3pm. The Festival features F1 LEGO cars, spaceships, interactive LEGO art, impressive displays, hands-on creative LEGO building, and more. Tickets available on the door. More details on the CultureCo:LB page. LBDAHS will be there too, so walk over and say hello.

LBDAHS is proud to support CultureCo:LB in making this unused High Street space a temporary focus for local culture, arts, and heritage over the summer.

What happened when my business had no power for a day.

It's print week at the Bee Local Magazine hive, not a great time for the power to go off. So what did I do with my 'off grid' time?

1. New Ideas. I decided to embrace it instead of running off to my nearest co-working space to resume digital. I stopped and thought of different ways to work on my business.

2. Power of Print. For ages I have had the materials for postable packs for potential clients. I sat down away from my desk and made up the packs. Thinking about how I like to receive cards, postcards, packages and letters in real life gave me ideas for more creative marketing. Guess that's why Bee works too😉

3. Post-it Notes. Sitting and scribbling down every thought and idea that came into my head without an agenda. a) showed me that its pretty busy in there 🤣 b) gave me valuable headspace and clarity. Now have a wall covered in post-its!!

4. No Drama. Despite being unreachable for a day at the busiest week of my business there really was no drama although there may be a couple of after hours at the desk to catch up.

5. Had cereal instead of toast

If your worklife is slaving over desk and digital have a go at a no power day, it's actually not that bad.

About Bee Local Magazine

In a nutshell (or perhaps a beehive) Bee Local Magazine is community magazine and directory for Leighton Buzzard and 14 surrounding Beds and Bucks villages.

It is put together and owned by me, (Andrena) I am a local lady and I have lived around here forever! My plan has always been to make a magazine that I would like to read. I try and fill it with interesting news, events, articles and puzzles and in turn my advertisers get seen by the readers and it helps local businesses get known and be successful.

Bee Local Magazine is delivered to 18,000 homes in the area and it also goes onto the checkouts at Morrisons plus soon to be available in Bassett Road surgery too.

If you would like to speak to me about advertising or your news and events please call on 01525 222473 /mob: 0797 155 4604. email [email protected] or simply message through facebook
