August… wow. You really packed it in didn’t you? 😂

2 new clients 🙌
A 40th birthday… mine 🤦🏻‍♀️
And a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, because apparently turning 40 wasn’t enough!

Not quite the birthday present I had in mind, but here we are…I’ve still been building websites, working on SEO, keeping clients happy and pretending I’ve got my 💩 together.

So yeah… August was eventful. Here’s hoping September is a little less eventful 😂

If the England squad were tradesmen...

Pickford would definitely be the site foreman - shouting instructions across the whole site!

Dan Burn would be the scaffolder - at 6ft 7, he barely needs the first lift!

Jude would be the Electrician - always bringing the spark!

Guéhi would be the bricklayer - building a solid wall and rarely putting a foot wrong.

And Henderson... Health & Safety feels ironic. 😂

Does your website actually bring in work for your trades business? 👀

I see comments like “websites don’t bring in work” all the time.

Badly built websites with no SEO or strategy don’t!

A website that isn’t showing up on Google, doesn’t clearly explain what you do, or gives people no reason to get in touch isn’t going to generate many enquiries.

But when a website is built properly around your services, your local area, and how customers actually search, it becomes a way of bringing consistent enquiries into your business.

Word of mouth is brilliant.

Facebook has its place.

But what happens when they’re quiet?

Your website should be constantly working in the background, helping local customers find you while you’re out on the tools.

Not sure if your website is actually doing its job? I offer free website audits for trades businesses. Drop me a message with your website URL.

Most tradesmen will check that their van, tools, and insurance are sorted...
But have no idea whether their website is GDPR compliant 👀

If you're running Facebook Ads, Google Ads, using Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or collecting enquiries through your website, there are legal responsibilities that come with that.
Does your website have:
✔ A Privacy Policy?
✔ A Cookie Policy?
✔ A Cookie Consent Banner?
✔ GDPR-compliant contact forms?

Just because your website is live doesn't mean it's compliant. It's definitely worth checking!

Not every AI-built website will get you fined.

But I’ve looked at a lot of AI-built websites for tradesmen this week and most are missing things like cookie consent, and privacy policies.

The scary part?

Most business owners don’t even know they’re missing them.

A website isn’t just a load of AI generated pages and a contact form.

If you’re collecting customer data, using analytics, running ads, or storing enquiry information, there are legal responsibilities that come with that.

A fancy video, one keyword, and two buttons… and we’re supposed to believe that’s enough to get a trades business ranking and converting? 🤦🏻‍♀️

This was a genuine conversation I had with a website designer today. And it explains why so many trades websites bring in absolutely nothing.

A customer isn’t sitting there admiring your fancy video.
They’re trying to work out:
✔ What you do
✔ Where you work
✔ Whether you’re the right company for the job
✔ How to contact you

And they’re making that decision within the first few seconds.

Meanwhile, Google is trying to work out exactly the same thing.

If the first impression is:
❌ One keyword
❌ One video
❌ Two buttons

…don’t be surprised when your website struggles to rank and enquiries never come.

A website isn’t there to stroke a designer’s ego.

It’s there to get found, build trust, and bring in work!

Yes, some companies will design you a “free” website.

But here’s the thing…

Most free website offers are built using the same template, with very little thought about your services, your area, your competitors or the type of jobs you actually want to win.

Can it show off your best projects and build trust with potential customers?
Can it turn website visitors into phone calls and enquiries?

That’s where the real work happens.

The businesses winning work online aren’t the ones with the cheapest websites. They’re the ones with websites built around their services, their locations, and their customers.

A free website might get you online.

A properly built website helps get the phone ringing!

Just launched a new website for a licensed local waste management company.
The aim was create a website that makes the business look professional, builds trust with customers, and actually helps generate enquiries.
The new website was built with:
✅ A strong local SEO structure
✅ Clear calls-to-action throughout
✅ Mobile-friendly design
✅ Better service visibility
