As we wrap up the year, we say a fond farewell to our wonderful Indigo Editor, Charlotte. Her passion, determination, and innovation have left a lasting mark on the team. It’s been a joy working alongside her, and while we’ll miss her presence in Durham, we’re so excited to see all that she’ll go on to achieve.

Ayasha has written a farewell to Charlotte:

Charlotte first joined the team in February 2023 as Interview Editor, and from the start, she brought a clear editorial vision rooted in care, curiosity, and purpose. Her work encompassed everything from Notes from Forgotten Women to features on Nightline. Across these stories, Charlotte consistently platformed underrepresented voices and approached important topics with thoughtfulness and depth, and she brought an incredible boldness to the stories she helped tell.

Taking on the role of Indigo Editor in Summer 2024, Charlotte led the magazine through 12 ambitious print editions and assembled a brand new editorial team. Under her guidance, Indigo grew more experimental, cohesive, and community rooted: she introduced a streamlined content-call system, elevated our thematic structure, and pushed for ever-higher standards in both story telling and visual identity. Working closely with the Social Media Editor, she reimagined our digital presence to make it align more with the creative heart of the magazine. Always encouraging the sections to chase bold new stories and curating meaningful collaborations, Charlotte has shown that a student arts and culture magazine can still ask big questions, and how to do so beautifully.

Under Charlotte’s tenure, Indigo also won our first ever Student Publication Association Awards. But beyond the awards and achievements, Charlotte’s greatest legacy is the culture she fostered. Like the magazine she nurtured, Charlotte’s leadership was rooted in intention, creativity, and quiet strength. She built a culture of trust and collaboration - always listening, always raising the bar, and always bringing out the best in those around her.

As the academic year comes to a close, it’s time to bid farewell to our incredible Indigo Editor, Ayasha. Her unwavering support, creativity, and dedication have made a lasting impact on the team. While we’re sad to see her go, we’re excited to watch all the amazing things she’ll accomplish beyond Durham, where the Indigo team will always be cheering her on!

Charlotte has written a final farewell for Ayasha:

If I could use one word to describe Ayasha’s impact on Indigo, it would be “legacy”. What Ayasha has done for this magazine has been so integral to its exponential success, it is sometimes unbelievable! Introducing the international Print editions, ensuring that our illustrators are platformed for their immense talent, and just generally being the backbone of the Indigo editorial board. Her creative vision is unmatched, and her patience with me as we figured out how to reinvigorate the magazine are such admiral qualities. Ayasha has truly secured indigo’s future success. Coming into my role as Indigo Editor, I was extremely nervous, but knew that I loved the magazine and believed in its capabilities. So, with Ayasha’s expertise, we’ve been able to form such a strong co-editorship, that we hope has supported each and every one of our section editors. Whatever Ayasha does going forwards she will be an asset because she is truly that type of person! It will be hard saying goodbye to Indigo, but it starts with giving Ayasha her flowers!

Congratulations to Alex Roy on her article, ‘The Rise of Happily Never Afters?’, which is our Editor’s Pick for the most recent Fairytale Print.

Read the article through the link in our bio, under Stage, or through the link in our story. It is a fascinating read all about how theatre endings are no longer as neatly conclusive as before.
