Community at the core 💛

I’ve been lucky enough to get involved in some brilliant projects in East Bergholt lately – and it’s a real privilege to support the people and places that make this village so special.

Right now I’m working with the on this summer’s Village Fair, and it’s shaping up to be our biggest one yet 🎪🗓️ – definitely one for the diary!

I’m also heavily involved with the , where my love of local history and John Constable keeps me happily rummaging through archives and collecting stories from the past 📚🌿

For the last few years I’ve also helped bring the to life 🎄✨ and continue to work with a range of local organisations – from community groups and businesses, to recently funded restoration projects (you know who you are 👀💛).

It’s not just work – it’s about connection, heritage, and village pride. And I’m so glad to play a small part in it.

📸 This photo was taken while I was filming the incredible bells at East Bergholt Church, which are still rung by hand at ground level inside the historic wooden bell cage – the only one of its kind in the country. It’s atmospheric, it’s loud 🔔😅 – and honestly, it’s pretty magical.

🚨✨ NEW LOOK, WHO DIS?! ✨🚨

So this wasn’t the plan… 😅 I just wanted to design a fun little something for a T-shirt… and somehow ended up giving HONK Media a whole fresh look! 🎨👕➡️🎉

Turns out when you love your job as much as I do, these things kind of… evolve! 💻💡

It’s just me behind HONK — working with the most brilliant bunch of people, businesses, and community legends (and doing lots of local work right here in beautiful East Bergholt 💚). I’ve been a bit quiet on socials, but I’m finally starting to share more about what I do, some of who I work with, and the awesome stuff that’s happening.

So here we go — new logo, new vibe, same HONK 🧡

🚣‍♀️🌿 Today’s office: the River Stour.

I don’t often post on here (classic social media manager problem 😅), but I’m finally starting to share more of what I get up to at HONK Media.

Today I am out creating content for one of my brilliant clients, – an off-grid, riverside campsite on the Suffolk/Essex border. We were filming a Reel for their now-iconic ‘Paddle to the Pub’ experience – a peaceful 1¼ hour canoe along the River Stour from the campsite to The Anchor at Nayland 🍻🛶

Huge thanks to my fabulous crew – my daughter Ren and her girlfriend Lily – for doing all the rowing while I pointed the camera and pretended it was hard work 😂

🎙️ Tune In! East Bergholt Society Chair on BBC Radio Suffolk This Saturday

This Saturday, 15th March just after
Midday, John Lyall, Chair of the East Bergholt Society, will be chatting with Thordis Fridriksson on BBC Radio Suffolk! 📻 He’ll be sharing stories about our village’s history, upcoming society events, and might even mention an incredible new discovery—a previously unknown John Constable sketch!

✨ About the Discovery:
A hidden gem by John Constable has been uncovered—a beautiful oil sketch from a private family collection that has never been recorded in art literature before! Titled "Dedham Vale Looking Towards Langham," the 12in x 15in piece dates back to around 1809-1814 and is thought to be a study for his 1825 masterpiece "Dedham Vale."

The artwork is heading to auction on 15th March at Tennants Auctioneers in North Yorkshire. Jane Tennant, director and auctioneer, describes it as a rare and exciting find, showcasing Constable’s early talent for capturing dramatic light and shade. It’s a fascinating insight into his creative process and deep love for the East Bergholt landscape.

The East Bergholt Society invite you to join us for an evening of history and discovery as local historian Adrian James unravels the fascinating stories behind the Brasier Map of East Bergholt, created in 1731.
