🌍 The planetary boundaries have become a central mechanism for understanding humanity's impact on the Earth, giving us clear thresholds we must stick to to ensure a safe and stable future for the planet.

With seven of those nine boundaries now breached, it's more urgent than ever that we take decisive action to repair the climate, safeguard biodiversity, and limit our impact on the Earth. That will require radical new ways of thinking and transformative solutions.

Over a thousand of these much-needed solutions will be at ChangeNOW at the end of the month. To give you a taste of who will be there, we've collated 10 innovators all working to protect planetary boundaries:

🪸 Biosphere integrity
Dunya Analytics
Tēnaka
Coastruction

🌳 Land system change

🌍 How close are we to pushing the planet beyond its limits?

The planetary boundaries framework helps answer that question, mapping nine critical Earth systems that keep our planet stable. But scientists now warn that seven of the nine boundaries have already been crossed.

Ahead of ChangeNOW 2026 in Paris, we've spotlighted some of the innovators working to restore balance across three of those systems: climate change, ocean acidification, and freshwater change.

From solar-powered industrial heat and digital tools for low-carbon farming, to direct ocean CO2 removal, kelp-based climate solutions, and new desalination technologies, these innovators show that the solutions our planet needs are already out there.

📈🌍 How can we scale climate innovation in 2026?

Building powerful climate technologies is a complex task, but getting them off the ground often presents an even bigger challenge.

Focus tends to be on the power of VCs, but public finance also has a huge role to play in accelerating climate tech.

For the latest episode of Future Now, we sat down with Sarah Tennison, the head of clean growth strategy and impact at Innovate UK, to unpack the role of public funding in de-risking first-of-a-kind technologies – and what needs to change to close the UK’s growth-stage funding gap.
