Is this my greatest thrift find?

I found this Holga on a toy shelf Salvos for .50c. It’s made of plastic, it is brightly coloured, it’s called a ‘toy camera’. I get the confusion.

It was designed in Hong Kong in the 1980s and failed as a family camera. However it was embraced by those who fell in love with its quirks (hipsters).

The same week found this camera I had been looking at Holgas on eBay. Before I started my thrift store camera project my only previous film experience was with a similar Holga when I was 21 (hipster).

I only developed two rolls before losing it.

Now 15 years later I really wanted to revisit the Holga. I thought it could be a poetic end to my commitment to shoot a new camera every month.

So my camera journey has come full circle, thanks to the Salvos toy shelf.

April on a 50 year old camera 📷

This is the 1972 Canon Canonet QL17 G-III and I got it for $15 on marketplace. I think it’s kinda cool that the camera is roughly the same age as the tropical dome in the first few photos.

I’ve shot a roll of film every month for almost two years now and one thing I’m noticing is the increase in useable shots on every roll. Two years ago I was lucky if 1 in 3 photos turned out. I’m not saying 1 in 3 were good, I’m saying 1 in 3 could be technically considered photos.

That number is now at least 2 in 3.
