Sea Fishing Norway, Travel Information To SandLand Brygge 🇳🇴🎣🐟

We’ve just got back from Norway and I’ve had quite a few messages regarding Norway. So posts over the next few weeks will be written to try and help people wanting to go.

We fished a camp called Sandland Brygge, an area near Loppa Island, it’s one of the Northerly points in Norway. The camp itself is fantastic and facilities are great. We couldn’t fault it. Staff are lovely and there is plenty of fishing opportunities even when it’s windy.

The journey from Heathrow is rather simple. However, it’s long in hours due to the layover times. There is 3 parts to the journey to Sandland brygge fishing camp. Many of the other fishing camps in this area are also going to be of similar travel route.

Your first port of call is to get a flight from Heathrow or your chosen airport to Oslo. We went to Oslo but I believe Tromso also works. Using SAS airlines was great. We had SAS plus, ( a kind of business class), this enables you access to Luthansa lounges at Heathrow and SAS lounges at Oslo (Free food and drink, including alcohol). It also gives you 2, 23kg hold bags instead of the standard 1. From 2026 it looks like the luggage is going up to 32kg instead per bag. But keep an eye on that. It wasn’t much more pricey to upgrade from economy to SAS plus. The lounges, extra bags and free meals/drinks on the plane I feel makes this option worthwhile. We opted for rod tubes. Mine was 2m 20cm and I had no issues at all. I packed weights at the bottom to reduce weight in the cases and also to keep my rod tube upright when being carried.

The flight from Heathrow to Oslo is around 1 hour 50 minutes. Upon arriving at Oslo you follow domestic connection flight signs. The airport is well signed and it’s a pleasant atmosphere. You’ll find a lounge to relax in if you’ve opted for SAS plus.

You are likely to have 2 hours before your next flight. A connection to Alta Airport. This flight is about 2 hours. The scenery is very nice out the window so grab a window seat if you can 😉

Upon arriving at Alta you will collect your bags and hope they arrive. Some people use AirTags to track their bags. But we found we lost connection on these a lot making for a more nervous experience. What I will say is label your bags well. Spread the barcode stickers around your bags and hope they arrive.

From Alta you will now require a passenger ferry to the Fishing camps. It stops at multiple different ones. It Costs about £30 one way to Sandoand Brygge. As you come out of the airport turn right. Walk down the road and follow it as it bends left. You will see the Ferry terminal building and a supermarket next to it. I have linked a google map pin for help. Download an app called Snelandia, you can purchase your ferry tickets here at the discounted price. The ferry takes between 3-3:30 hours depending on how many stops it has to make. It’s very smooth, pleasant and there was free tea and coffee when we went. There is plugs to use to charge phones etc. But you will need a travel adapter to use these as they are not USB at the moment. Upon entering the ferry leave your big bags and rod tubes on the rear deck area. The Bosun will show you where. there isn’t enough space inside if there is many of you.

When you arrive at Sandland the bags are offloaded and you will be greeted by the team. They will take your bags in the van to the accommodation and there you can unpack and unwind. Boat handover is the following morning between about 8-9am.

So that is the journey, from East Sussex to Sandland Camp it was about 15 hours door to door. It’s not to bad though, enjoy the journey and look at the amazing scenery.

Food is expensive at Alta airport and Oslo. Expect to spend £20-30 on a light meal. We used supermarkets and lounges so avoided these costs. The Mr’s presents were £86 mind you, so I hope your other half doesn’t have expensive tastes 😂

Any questions please feel free to message. Here to help and get people out fishing 😊

Norway 🇳🇴 2025

Over a years wait and our Norway Fishing Trip had arrived. Months of preparation and planning was about to be put into action!

We had 6 days of fishing to accomplish any goals/targets we had set. Our teams boat was called Skavnakk. We’d skipper it and fish off it for the week. Targets included Halibut, Cod, Wolfish, Coal fish, Haddock and whatever else fancied taking our lures and/or baits.

We worked hard over the days we had here. Fishing isn’t as easy as it once was here, we also came on a particularly hard weeks fishing. We were learning the marks, techniques and the changes we had to make as the week went along and adapting to what was put in front of us.

Day 1 - This was a day of jigging the various lures over some banks and rough ground. Deno had a spectacular fight with a Halibut on a spinning rod. We caught ample ammounts of cod, Haddock and a few Coalies. A great way to break us in. No big cod or any “special” fish but it was certainly great fun.

Days 2 and 3 - These were spent chasing halibut and Wolfish on baits. It was frustrating at times, learning as we went. But I did manage a small halibut to tick it off. Ben also managed to catch one on day 3, that was relief for us all. Wolfish and Tusk were a pain, Norways pouting! But it was nice to catch some nice ones and they made for great photos!

Day 4/5 - Sunday (day 4) was a blowy day, it was spent shore fishing on the rocks at sandland. I throughly enjoyed it. Catching Dabs, Plaice and Scorpion Fish. Sunday evening the wind calmed down and myself and Ben went on a night session into Monday morning. I managed to catch 2 more halibut through the night and achieving a new PB. As we were about to head in about 3AM the sounder showed some fish. We located huge numbers of cod and Coalfish. Nothing massive but a better stamp of fish than what we were having previous. Achieving a new PB cod in this time to. Monday day time was spent jigging and halibuting once more. I managed another Halibut, taking my total to 4. We found some deeper ground catching some nice low double figure cod. Deno had a lovely cod near 20lb on a deeper bit of reef.

Day 6 - The last harah!! Plaice was the order of the day, they go big out here but rumour had it that the fishing had become tougher. Regardless we found the fish, nothing huge but certainly worth putting the effort in to catch. We all had nice Plaice and Dabs, again I achieved a PB on both Dab and Plaice.

Over the week here all the species targets were achieved for all of us. Halibut, medium size cod, wolffish and more. It’s a spectacular place to which I’d advise any boating folk or shore fishing folk to visit.

I will be doing some posts regarding tackle, lessons learned and what the journey consists of in the coming weeks.

A special Thanks to Deno for the amazing food throughout the week. He cooked some spectacular food, and the whole group for making it an experience we won’t forget. Good laughs is what we all needed and we had some good fish along the way.

No monster fish this time but we will be back…. A new yearly tradition may have been started 😅

I’m yet to type up the report for this little last minute session but I have managed to fling together the edit over the hours here and there when I can focus up.

Kayak fishing for Bass while trolling lures behind the kayak is probably one of my favourite ways to catch them. The takes are savage and the exercise from the hours of fishing helps the mind and soul.

What’s your favourite method of catching bass?
