🏮🏮🏮中國太平🏮🏮🏮

Outside of China, a paifang gateway [pictured] is the universal symbol for Chinatowns all over the world. There’s a few gateways in London’s Chinatown - we passed under these two on our journey through London this Summer.

The grandest looking gateway, can be found on Wardour Street and reads 中國太平 on one side of it. This means Great Peace in China🇨🇳. The other gateway that we’ve captured can be found on Gerrard Street.

Chinatown London is very crowded so whilst you might not find great peace there, you will find a buzzing atmosphere and lots of places to eat East Asian food. So put Chinatown on your list of things to do or see in London, especially if you’re visiting the Sondheim Theatre to see Les Misérables as the theatre sits across the road (and a really short walk) from the grand paifang gateway on Wardour Street 🙌🏾 .

✨Alexandra Palace✨

Alexandra Palace opened in 1873 & is named after King Edward VII’s wife, Alexandra of Denmark. It’s also referred to as The People’s Palace and Ally Pally.

The Palace has a rich history of both triumph🎥 & tragedy🔥! It’s the place where HD TV first began for Britain & the world, courtesy of the BBC. However, it wasn’t always as triumphant as just 16 days after opening, Alexandra Palace experienced its first fire! Then in the 40s, a World War 2 💣 caused structural damage & a second fire broke out in the 80s.

Ally Pally is an entertainment hub that hosts (or has previously hosted) huge musical events🎶, theatrical shows🎭, public roller skating🛼, ice skating⛸️ and of course television broadcasting 🎥. This year, it celebrated its 150th year anniversary.

We visited Ally Pally this summer and enjoyed the views of London’s skyline, beyond Alexandra Park, in which Alexandra Palace sits.
