Some photos from South Queensferry the other day.
Didn’t really plan anything just walked around, looked at the bridges, grabbed some chips, and ended up sitting by the water for way longer than expected. It’s one of those places that feels like a break without needing to go far

The bridges always look cool, especially the big red one doesn’t matter how many times you’ve seen it, it still makes you stop for a second

The streets are quiet, a bit uneven, and full of old houses that probably have a ton of stories. There’s always someone walking their dog or eating ice cream, even when the weather’s doing that classic Scottish sun but also wind but maybe rain in 5 minutes thing

Not much else to say just a good little day in a place that never feels too busy or too empty

1. The cloister at the university, just behind The Mound. Quiet, open, all stone and symmetry. It feels like the kind of place that doesn’t need attention to be remembered.
2. The Vennel. A narrow alley, steeps steps, and then that view, the castle right in front of you, framed by rooftops and sky. It almost doesn’t feel real.
3. The Scott Monument. Dark, sharp, and massive. It doesn’t try to be friendly it just stands there, strange and dramatic, like part of a different century.
4. The views across the Old Town. Stacked chimneys, sloping rooftops, buildings leaning into each other. Nothing is flat or perfect, and that’s what makes it so good.
5. The Writers’ Museum. Hidden in a close, almost easy to miss. But once you find it, there’s this small courtyard and the feeling that stories still live there.

Edinburgh doesn’t explain itself. You just walk through it, and it stays with you.

The Kelpies are two colossal horse-head sculptures located in The Helix Park, near Falkirk, Scotland. Standing 30 meters (98 feet) tall, they are among the largest equine sculptures in the world. Created by Scottish artist Andy Scott, The Kelpies were completed in 2013 and officially opened to the public in 2014.

These impressive structures are inspired by the shape-shifting water spirits from Scottish folklore known as kelpies, which were said to take the form of powerful horses. Traditionally, kelpies were believed to haunt rivers and lochs, luring people—especially children—into the water.

However, Andy Scott’s interpretation is more modern and symbolic. His Kelpies pay tribute to the working horses of Scotland—the Clydesdales—that once pulled barges along the nearby canals and played a crucial role in the country’s industrial past.

Made from hundreds of stainless steel plates over a steel framework, the sculptures are not only an engineering marvel but also a powerful visual landmark. Visitors can explore the site by walking around the sculptures or even taking guided tours inside them to learn about their construction and meaning.

The Kelpies have become a symbol of Scotland’s heritage, strength, and creativity, attracting thousands of visitors each year.

Edinburgh where the cobbles ken yer secrets, the haar sneaks roon like a ghost, and folk aye say ‘it’s baltic’ even in July

Edinburgh at night feels like stepping into another world. The cobbled streets echo softly beneath your feet, the ancient buildings glow under the warm flicker of streetlights, and the mist hangs low like a quiet secret. There’s a stillness in the air—as if time has slowed, and the city is gently dreaming. In these quiet hours, Edinburgh doesn’t just exist… it feels. Mysterious, timeless, and a little bit magical
