We are incredibly proud to share one of our most meaningful projects to date: a brand new tartan created to celebrate and honour the diversity, strength, and community of autistic individuals.
Commissioned by Kieron Colville, this tartan marks the 20th Anniversary of Number 6, One Stop Shop for Autistic Adults, a vital service provided by Autism Initiatives Scotland. Woven into the design are 20 white threads, each representing a year of support, advocacy, and empowerment.
The colours were chosen through a community-led survey, ensuring the tartan truly reflects the voices and experiences of the autistic community. A striking yellow stripe symbolises "Au," the chemical symbol for gold, which is widely recognised in online autistic spaces as a proud shorthand for autism.
Launched during National Autism Acceptance Month in April, this tartan made its first public appearance at the inaugural Tartan Parade Scotland on Saturday. Kieron marched proudly with a banner featuring the design, and for us, it was a huge honour to see the tartan showcased in such a meaningful way.
It has been a privilege to bring this vision to life and to play a part in celebrating such an important milestone.
