This is a superb piece by the fantastic Scottish author, journalist and activist Ali Smith for the Guardian, involved in the Refugee Tales books project where she appropriately recounts her meetings with those detained under the UK Gov’s asylum process.

If you can get your hands on one of the Refugee Tales editions, they’re full of the words of those who’ve experienced being a refugee, and like Smith’s article, provoke a great deal of reflection.

Hopefully, these words might also prompt your creative responses to our exhibition theme, SHELTER.

Submit contributions to us via our email, or dm for questions.

SHELTER ~ Our online solidarity exhibition is focusing on the theme of Shelter and we’re STILL OPEN to contributions!

We’ve already had some fantastic pieces sent in, exploring social spaces to what it feels like in someone else’s skin, using textiles to collage.

If you are keen to contribute but stuck for inspiration, consider exploring testimonies or work by those who have been through the refugee or asylum experience. Our Refugee Week post is a place to start, and we’ll be sharing more materials over the next few days.

As always, questions or contributions to our email or drop is a dm! Get creating!

If you're in the London area, it is definitely worth checking out the Tate Modern's 'A Year in Art: 1973' exhibition - it's free! The exhibition deals with themes of time and collective action, exploring the waves in art and culture after the 1973 military coup overturning the socialist Allende government in Chile.

Here's a feature which talks about some of the highlights of the exhibition!

We’re not only looking for more fantastic submissions for the forthcoming 2019/20 Solidarity Issue (deadline is 13th Jan!) but for a female/non-binary artist to design the cover artwork for the issue!

This is a great opportunity to gain a role growing the zine and it’s community! Dm/email your interest.

After the UK election voted in Johnson’s Tory Gov, TLG would like to express solidarity with all those who oppose racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia, ableism, islamaphobia, anti-semitism and classism. Boris Johnson is NOT our PM. In this vein, TLG invites you to contribute a piece of solidarity art to an emergency issue of TLG. This is a protest. This is an avenue to express your rage and disappointment. This is a space for art to combat hate. Let’s create a support network. Submit to [email protected].

TLG is looking to publish a couple of features on art as activism: how do you use your art to express your political views/fight for political change? If you’re inspired or interested in writing a short piece, drop me a message!
