"There’s a huge amount of information packed into this slim volume. Starting with an introduction laying out the basic facts about the continent, it soon moves into a ‘briefing before you go’ chapter, which sets out a few FAQs that will be on prospective travellers’ minds… This book is all about… helping the traveller make informed choices about their own visit.

However, the wonder, drama and majesty of Antarctica shine through. I particularly enjoyed the comprehensive sections on Antarctic wildlife (those silhouette bird identification guides look handy) and the history of the continent. This section is surprisingly in-depth and covers most of the key expeditions. Looking to the future, the impact of climate change is explored, and I’m glad to see an emphasis on the close link between Antarctic ice and the rest of the world."
