👏 From field to foodbank: shoots tackle food poverty

A new initiative from The Country Food Trust is turning surplus partridges and pheasants into ready meals for families facing food poverty, with trial hubs in Essex, Northamptonshire and Scotland.

The scheme demonstrates the social value of game shooting while helping shoots struggling to find buyers for their birds this season.

The trust is seeking support to expand the initiative next year.

📰 GunsOnPegs starts auctioning last-minute pegs

GunsOnPegs has introduced a sealed-bid system allowing premium members to compete for last-minute shoot days. Premium members can submit confidential bids over 24 hours, with shoots selecting the winners and avoiding cancelled or unfilled pegs going to waste.

According to GunsOnPegs, a shoot in Wales recently used the system to fill two pegs after a pair of Guns cancelled shortly before the day. Both spaces sold within a day, with the successful bidder securing a peg at less than half the original price.

GunsOnPegs, which operates on a commission-free model, now lists more than 1,900 shoots. “When a shoot suddenly has a space to fill, we want our premium Guns to be the first to hear about it,” said managing director Digby Taylor.
