It's showtime, folks! ROADSIDE is now live on YouTube! We'd really appreciate you taking a few minutes out of your day to give our wee film a swatch and a like.

Roadside was filmed over one weekend back in August last year, entirely outdoors and on a shoestring budget with a 2-person crew. To say it was a challenge would be an understatement, but it was equally as rewarding and fun - the four of us had a blast making it and hopefully that comes across.

Meet the cast and crew: Mikey McManus – Writer/Director/DoP

‘Roadside’ is Mikey’s fifth venture into the world of fictional short films since directing ‘Ash-Hole’ in 2023, and his first solo writing credit.

‘Mikey McManus is a 16-year Army Veteran and Off-Shore Diver, trading up into film & TV in 2015. He has worked with several production companies producing high-end TV shows for BBC, Discovery, History, Channel 4 and Quest.

Mikey is a multi-skilled Producer, Director and DoP with experience across several genres including observational, historical, and factual entertainment. To further his interest in people and the technical aspects of filmmaking, he is keen to tackle projects that require depth, craft, and creativity but also attempt new genres that will allow him to apply his experience and grow as a creator.

He has recently taken a step towards the world of fiction, working on several short films in 2023 as director and DoP.’

Meet the cast and crew: Sarah Stables - Crew

‘Roadside’ marks Sarah’s fourth film with Mikey since first working together on ‘Ash-Hole’ in 2023. As a 2 person crew on this project, we both had to multi-task and cover many different roles during both pre-production and the weekend of filming outdoors.

‘Sarah is a Scottish filmmaker based near Glasgow. In 2021 she returned to education as a mature student and recently graduated with a BA in Filmmaking and Scriptwriting.

In 2023, she won the Craft Award for Writing at the RTS Scotland Student Awards, where her short film 'Falsehood' was also nominated in the Drama category. Sarah has worked on numerous short films and documentaries and likes to align herself with projects she feels passionately about.’

Meet the cast and crew: Neil D Jamieson as Casey.

Neil has worked with Mikey several times both behind and in front of the camera since the pair’s initial collaboration on ‘Ash-Hole’, which was filmed in January 2023. Neil brings an unmatched energy to set and is always up for challenge.

‘Neil is an actor, musician and producer from Glasgow. He developed a passion for music and the arts from a young age. He knew the first moment he walked on stage, that performing was in his blood. Neil started off in the music industry, playing in bands. Then moved into writing and producing music, before focusing on directing and producing music videos, short films and documentaries. He then made the move to the other side of the camera as an actor, first on stage and then into film. He recently appeared in Another Great Night (2023)’

Meet the cast and crew: Taya Sian as Natalie.

We first worked with Taya on ‘Barbicide’ in 2023 and have been keen to collaborate with her again. Thankfully ‘Roadside’ provided the perfect opportunity. Taya is an incredible talent, dedicated to her craft and a joy to work with.

‘Taya Sian is an actor and writer from Glasgow. Taya trained at New College Lanarkshire, and graduated in 2024 with a First Class BA (Hons) in Acting With Creative Enterprise.

Her most recent work includes ‘THE J WORD’ a semi-autobiographical one woman stage show inspired by her experiences growing up as a young carer.

Her first time in front of the camera was ‘Barbicide’ (2023) and since then she has been keen to expand her experience in film, so she was thrilled when asked to be a part of this project.’

I’m excited to announce my next short film, ‘Roadside’, drops this Sunday 9th March at 6pm on YouTube.

Filming this was an exciting challenge as it was filmed entirely outdoors with a 2-person crew and minimal budget. We’ll be sharing more about the cast, crew and process in the run-up to Sunday so keep your eyes peeled!
