Ever noticed TV static overlaying your vision? 📺✨

You’re not imagining it — you could be among the 2% of people in the UK who experience visual snow, a newly recognised neurological condition where the issue isn’t the eyes… but the brain.

First observed back in 1944, visual snow has puzzled scientists for decades, from snowy vision to strange colour changes, all with perfectly normal eye exams.

Curious about what causes it, how it’s recognised today, and why science is only now catching up? 🧠🔍

“I find it amazing that humans have built a telescope that allows us to peer so far back in time and that we can see these very nascent phases of the galaxy in such a beautifully festive way.” - Prof Heymans, Scotland’s Astronomer Royal

🌟🎄 Ever seen a galaxy dressed for Christmas? In 2024, NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope captured the Christmas Tree Galaxy Cluster, 4.3 billion light-years away! Ten star-forming clumps shine like cosmic baubles, and 14 flickering stars twinkle like lights—giving astronomers a rare glimpse of how galaxies like our Milky Way first formed. 🌌🔭

Wishing you wonder and light this holiday season! ✨

🧬✨ Can low oxygen reprogram your immune system?
Whether you're climbing high altitudes 🏔️ or recovering from severe lung illness 🫁, low blood oxygen may quietly weaken your immune cells—even after levels return to normal.

A new study suggests low oxygen alone can reshape immunity. Curious how oxygen levels can influence immunity at a genetic level?

On Remembrance Sunday, we commemorate those who lost their lives during WWI and all wars since, and honour members of the University of Edinburgh community who served and contributed to wartime research— from pioneering medical treatments to advances in engineering and radar.🕯️

Red poppy is a symbol of both remembrance and hope for a peaceful future. Wear one on yourself, or put one up on your car today to show support for the Armed Forces community.
