The victim, identified as Iftekhar Ul-Islam, a 27-year-old Bangladeshi man living in Airdrie, was attacked on the morning of Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

Incident Details:

Around 7:00 AM, while Iftekhar was waiting outside a Sainsbury's store near Killermont Street and Sauchiehall Street before starting work, an unknown man approached him. The man demanded a cigarette and then cash to buy a drink.

The Assault:

When Iftekhar refused, the man became highly aggressive. As Iftekhar tried to walk away, the attacker grabbed his backpack from behind and repeatedly punched him in the face and head.

Lack of Assistance:

Iftekhar noted that despite shouting for help, none of the bystanders in the area intervened to stop the attack. He sustained noticeable injuries to his head and nose.

According to local reports by Glasgow Live, the victim strongly believes the unprovoked encounter was racially motivated.
